Title says everything. I try to update, it doesn't let me. It says "can't update, restarting now" or something. I just updated Luma to the newest version, and I think I'm still on B9S 1.1 or something, I tried updating but couldn't because Luma says the payload is "corrupted".

The 3ds of my girlfriend did this.

I power on without the sd card then tried again and then it goes.

The payload error message is when you try to boot your console, isn't it?

No. I'm trying to update my firmware. It throws an error. The payload error is when I try to boot SafeB9SInstaller. I'm figuring this out, for now I don't need help.

You make no sense. What about you give us more information? I'm terrible at guessing stuff.

You're trying to boot SafeB9SInstaller through Luma's chainloader or as boot.firm? The later shouldn't be a problem, SafeB9SInstaller boots whatever version of B9S you have.
If you haven't updated B9S but updated Luma to latest version it is normal that you get this error message (assuming you don't have B9S 1.2+).

No. I'm trying to update my firmware.

I know, i understand your problem and i said that this happen to me too.
The system update give a error message and reboot the 3ds, right?
After i did the "remove/insert" sd card the update works, don't know if it will work with you.

actually, that didnt happen at all. it was i who wanted to update to be able to use the online features and the friend list.
I had a similar problem after I modded some of the system titles for fun. Even after I restored them to the original versions I still couldn't update. Had to make a new emuNAND and inject my data from the previous one into it manually with GM9 so as to not lose anything. That fixed the problem and I haven't had problems since.
So you got off easy :P

also, i didn't have the homemenu.cia file backed up, and the version i was stuck on was 11.4... the last version they had the title id of the homemenu.cia for. i got so fucking lucky, and it even worked after i used it with 3dnus! i was so happy... if i wouldve been stuck on 11.5 instead, i wouldve been fucked.

The title ID of home menu doesn't change, only the version changes. And the title ID and version are always available on https://www.3dbrew.org/wiki/Title_list or if that hasn't been updated yet, the version will be on yellows8's update tracker.
Edit: Actually, home menu hasn't been updated since 11.4, so it wouldn't have mattered.
