Can't Sleep; Ghosts Will Kill Me

ARGH every time I go to do something I accidentally close this tab somehow and lose all the data I entered into the text box!

Last time I'm trying to post this....

@Sora de Eclaune Any more stories you reccommend from nosleep board? I like the stories you picked... good stuff.
I've grouped related stories together, in the order they're supposed to be read.
Torrent a copy of iDoser and listen to a dose while you go to sleep. It doesn't get you "high" (at least in my experience) like it says, but it is good for white noise. I liked the "acid" one for white noise.
When I first moved in, Chell told me she'd pay me $20 to listen to Gates of Hades twice in a row in the same iDosing session. Now, Chell's an avid iDoser. She takes a nap every day at around 1:00PM and iDoses during her naps, and has always done so for as long as the application's been around if I remember correctly. She told me Gates of Hades was named as such because it was an intense iDose, but it was harmless and calming. At the time, I had never heard of Gates of Hades, so I believed her.

....I got the $20, but I'll be damned if I ever try any other iDose files. Ever. (I will not disclose what happened. All I can say is that I bought a pocket knife less than an hour after the iDosing section.)

And now I'm reminded of how Alessa thought Gates of Hades was tame and calming when Chell got her to listen to it for the first time. My god, how does she do it...

Chell edit: Sora's getting ready for bed so I have five minutes with this account. If you want to know what happened when she idosed, pm this account NOW or you won't know.

Awesome stuff I'll give it a read in a moment. Now I'm home alone in a big house D:

Wait... Am I encouraging you to be more afraid than you already are? I feel bad with that realisation with asking for more stories. So I'll just add what I do when I feel scared.

I do martial arts...yeah yeah I can't hit immaterial things but it can't hurt to try ;)

Also I appreciate you taking to time to put this together after you mentioned you had some failed attempts.

It was no trouble, seeing as my last attempt posted. All I had to do was go to my history and copy the links. I didn't even have to see the stories!

However, as soon as I added in that bit at the end to quote the person who mentioned iDosing, I noped hard.

Poe's law. I cannot tell if you are serious or a troll.

Maybe I was being to obtuse. My exact position on this issue is that, as an unrelenting skeptic myself, I have come to accept that there ARE unexplainable things in this life through nothing short of personal experience. I have never seen a "ghost" but I have undoubtedly been haunted. Aliens, Ghosts, Gods, all or none; Something does exist that has yet to be defined or explained and your refusal to accept the unknown makes you the one who would claim that the earth is flat not I.

But, as a skeptic, you should know that you can't just rely on hearsay or a gut feeling alone. There has to be data and evidence that can be supported, which for ghosts (or whatever else you listed), there has not been.

Sure, there are some phenomena that we have, as of yet, had difficulty explaining. However, any skeptic should know that you don't just throw up your hands and go "Must be ghosts/divine intervention/aliens/invisible pink unicorns/etc." and call it a day. You do research, you study, and you investigate to get at the bottom of these cases; when people have actually bothered to do this (and were legitimately conducting the scientific method), absolutely nothing has been found to support a supernatural explanation.

Haha, I barely slept the night after I fought Giygas. Quite odd, since it's hardly a horror game.

THAT is what has you scared?
Things like that?
I picked 4 of those at random and read them. God that's like 15 minutes of my life i'll never get back. None of them were scary, and none of them were written well enough, or in a way that was even believable.
The top one is especially, hilariously, bad. It was like the dude watched Kanon, and then watched a horror movie and tried to mix the two concepts, and failed.

No, that is not what made me scared. Not separately.

It was a combination of too much coffee, the Butcherface story, and then all of these.

absolutely nothing has been found to support a supernatural explanation.

But sometimes nothing has been found to support a rational explanation. Like the door you're right next to that didn't open, but you heard it squeak open and closed.

Creaky doors? Ghosts, obviously.

And seriously, what is more sensible; that the door's hinge being somewhat faulty/sensitive to any pressure, or a paranormal entity has the power to actively manipulating the environment around you and only uses it to control a door?

No, what I was saying was this:
  1. The door never moved.
  2. The sound of that exact door opening happened.
  3. A few seconds after, the sound of that exact door closing AND LATCHING CLOSED happened.
  4. The door never moved.
Explain how a door next to you can sound like it opens and latches closed without moving. It's not just a creak, it's the sound of the door being opened and shut with the doorknob sounds and the latch clicking.

Wat.

See, I tried the Gates of Hades one too. That was the last time I tried iDosing because I just haven't felt like it since. I've been using Turtle Beach XL1's for it, not the best but maybe later I'll try my Senheisser CX150 earbuds. In any event, I occasionally like white noise when I sleep. I have some form of tinnitus (when you have constant ringing in your ears) and have had it for as long as I can remember. Usually it doesn't bother me, but every once in a while I'll focus in on it and just can't fall asleep and it drives me batshit insane. Like right now, the ringing is fairly prominent. White noise helps me ignore it or even completely masks it. Well, one night I decided to put on the Gate of Hades iDose and try to fall asleep. Now, this could all very likely be a placebo effect, but the Acid one did make me feel slightly off balance/gave me wavy vision for about 30 seconds after finishing it.

The Gates of Hades one annoyed me after about 15 minutes, so I tore my headphones off, threw them on my chair, said fuck it and went to sleep. Shit night of sleep though, I will admit.

That means nothing; our perception (and especially memory) is a lot shoddier than you would think (For example, people can create new memories through suggestion alone). It seems incredibly likely in this case that this incident didn't happen exactly as you described.

But let's say it happened exactly as you described, and your memory of the event has not been altered in any way, shape, or form by the passage of time; let's use some logic. If some paranormal entity could cross the barrier between life and death and could manipulate the world of living, why would it squander this incredible power to just make the sound of a door opening next to you and you alone? Does that make any sense?

I'm sorry, but when it comes down to a match between thousands of years of rational, scientific research (rigorously tested with factual, provable results) and the memory of a single incident from one person, the science will win out every time.
