Homebrew Can't save or find my saved games

Hi!
I'm very new here and also new to emulating on my NDSi.
I downloaded gbaemu4ds, placed it in my R4 and tried to emulate Pokemon Saphire, and so far so good. However, after I played it a little bit, I saved it and I turned my NDS off. When I try to load my in-game save, it looks like a new game.
How can I save in-game or is there a way to save through the emulator?
If so, how can I load it?

Pokémon Sapphire USA rom doesn't work saving, try (E) ROM.

I downloaded it from that website and still can't save. Is there no way I can save it like using the emulator?
