the nds phat was ok on launch for me

On my 5th DSL now, first two had cracked hinges and unresponsive d-pads. 3rd one had bad boot times and again a lousy d-pad. Nintendo decided to send me one after inspecting one personally and sent me it....The bottom screen was so yellow it was gross. They let me keep that one and sent me a new one as well, this one is ok aside from the d-pad again starting to give me grief and a little yellow on the bottom (little off center as well)

My DS phat never had any troubles even when it took a trip across my kitchen. I don't know what Nintendo is doing but quality has gone downhill with these lites, at least for me. I'm going to be sending this one in for repairs on the d-pad and the bottom screen. Hopefully this will be the last time I need to take care of this thing.

I'm gonna tell you guys, replace it ASAP. I had one, and part of the hinge fell off and its impossible to hold.

My hinge cracked a few months ago. I don't really care though. I don't see it while playing nor when it's in the case. I have a best buy replacement plan, but using it this soon is wasting money. When a big problem occurs, then I'll take care of it.

I don't think its that big of a deal as some people think. I mean, its just a little crack. There are far worse things that could happen to your DSL (Like my friend's who whole top half is missing

That's what I'd be worried about. The way the DS looks with a small crack wouldn't bother me at all, but I wouldn't want it to break off completely later on.

juggernaut911: so he gets a new DS in June, rather than having 5 months of wear on it by then. Although if the replacement develops a crack as well then he's screwed cause it'll be out of warranty by then :S So I guess it's a double-edged sword.

I called Nintendo yesterday because I have a hinge crack and they told me even though my unit is under warranty, it is not covered. But they can arrange so that I get a $30 discount.

I thought Nintendo is supposed to replace it for free, they told me hinge crack is not covered under warranty.

Can you confirm?

Thanks.

It's supposed to be covered by the warranty, it's a factory defect. But maybe it depends on the local Nintendo representatives.

Word of advice: if you're getting a replacement, try and get a black one. They don't crack.

If I send it back to Nintendo, do I have to pay for the shipping? (stupid question?)
Cause it will be hell to me, overseas shipping.

I just had mine repaired, had the full crack on the left side and the start of the other crack on the right. Took about a 8 days to be turned around, sent back what i sent them, a unit, a stylus no bottom cover.

It looked to me like the same system with a new case on it. (same off color buttons, notacable screen usage.)

so either they sent me mine repaired, or another one that had already been sent in for repair IE: refurbed.

Havent had it back 3 days, and its starting to crack again. I may try and request a black replacement, or oder a shock case. and repleace it myself.

Thank you for the replies.

edit:
Uh, wait a minute, there's no "Hungary Stadlbauer Marketing" on that page.

My Lite just developed a crack in the left hinge .. don't know how .. it wasn't like that before and it was it its case.

Just called Nintendo Australia and the staff there insisted that the crack could only happen if there was force applied to the Lite.

He said there would be an appraisal fee and repair cost unless it was deemed it was a manufacturing fault.

But the only way to tell would be to send it in (at my own cost)

Ok, I called in three times and they wanted 50$ to repair it. I ask if there was any service repair center near me an the closing one is about 80 miles away. What do you guys say to the reps to get it fix for free? I was honest with them. I told them that I always play with the screens tilted angle and when for the first time I played at the flat angle then it cracked. They all want to charge me 50$ to fix it.
