There have been many wonderful and creative games produced and released in recent memory that have done dismally sales wise.
God hand, Okami, Psychonaughts, and many others like it will never get the sequel they deserve.
Who in your opinion is to blame, and what can be done to reverse the curse, if anything?

Personally, I think there's 2 sides to blame for the lack of creativity. The lack of sales is due to pirates (yes I sometimes pirate to) and Publishers like activision don't let their Devs think outside the box. Those IMO, are the 2 sides to blame.

It's not that it can't, it's just the fact that business is business.

Creativity represents a risk, while sticking to a formula guarantees that there is an audience of consumers.

Ok.
I can't say I disagree....but what can be done to fix it?
Perhaps a boycott of Activision and EA until they start releasing mid-budget games with a focus on creativity?

I don't think your average raging CoD fanboy cares about creativity enough to boycott Activision.

Can and will are two different things.
I believe that given the right amount of time and ideas, creativity can make a comeback in the gaming industry.

The general gaming public is to blame for the sudden lack of creativity.
Game developers tried something bland, it worked better than expected. They try it again, people keep buying it.
With no consequence, but a reward for the action, it becomes a favorable action in their minds.

Its mostly business.
Most of the time is the developer standing over the programmers.
Programmers POV: this could look better
Developer/Producer:Get it done so i can have money and also pay you.
Programmer: okkk. money.

I mean EA isnt helping at all. Buying companies and releasing games on a yearly basis.
Also like whoever makes CoD '09 '10 '11 and so on when was there an ounce of creativity in those games?

Oh. someone already proved my point.

Personally, I kinda like EA now...not in love or anything, but mass effect, dead space and dantes inferno do make me hopeful.
I must say that I was very disappointed to see MoH though....

Tis rant time!

But, you are right....most gamers dont really care...kinda sad really.
Even with Deus Ex coming out, I can't help but feel rather hopeless about the US game industry at large.
There used to be a time when Americans made adventure games that were talked about, now I can't even name one that has been made in the last year...
But I can name several from Europe and Japan.
End of rant.

There are creative games coming out but sure not as much as there was in the ps1 era i suppose.
I enjoy Call of duty as a game, it's fun it's engaging, and it's not so hardcore that you get a migraine playing it. (Unless you rage

)
I also enjoy RPGs and generally creative games though but they aren't something you'd play casually and you can't just pick it up and play like you could on CoD. Both types (mainstream/non mainstream I call them) have their pros and cons.

Here are the last 5 games I've bought:
Assasssins creed: Brotherhood
Call of Duty: Black ops
Battlefield Bad company 2
Halo: Reach
Mass effect 2
(My year of games basically
