Can I have (and transfer to home) all Gen 1-7 Pokemon Games on the 3ds?

I currently have a (homebrewed) 3DS and a Switch. I am aware I can transfer Pokémon from Gen 6 and 7 directly to bank and then home (even if the games are downloaded from hshop). I also have Gen 1-2 games actually bought through virtual console, and those can also transfer.
I also managed to install Gen 3, 4, and 5 games to the 3DS (none with cartridge), is there any way I can get them to bank? Or is pksm the only way?

Unfortunately, if you don't have the cartridges for Gen 3/4/5 games, the only way to move data off them is save editors. If you want, you can use something like PKHeX and transfer the Pokémon from the Gen 3/4/5 save to a Gen 6/7 save. PKHeX (should) convert everything appropriately, and it shouldn't be different as if you did the transfers legitimately

Also, if you wanna do the Gen 3 -> Gen 4 transfer "legitimately", you can use an emulator like melonDS to do it. Gen 4 -> Gen 5 *should* be possible on the console itself without carts, assuming you have 2 consoles. Gen 5 -> Bank is the only place you actually need carts for legitimate transfers

Doing it through PKHeX or pksm is my last resort.
If I buy a DS Lite can I do it? (Downloading the roms or something, idk how the homebrew for it works) Like just get the DS, get the cfw and download the games, and then transfer?

You need a flashcart to play homebrew/ROMs on a DS (Lite). It will work for the Gen 3 -> Gen 4 and Gen 4 -> Gen 5 transfers, but that's it. You can't use a DS flashcart to transfer to Pokémon Bank, as Bank won't recognize the cart as a Pokémon game

Actually, I stand corrected, it *won't* work for the Gen 3 -> Gen 4 transfer unless you have a *real* Gen 3 cart of whatever games you have saves for, sorry for the misinformation

What if I get the cartridge for only the gen 5 game and the flashcart?
If that doesn't work my only option would be picking between buying the DS + one game from each gen or just pksm...

If you get a legitimate Gen 5 cart, then yeah, you'll be able to successfully do the transfer to Pokémon Bank. You'll still need a 2nd console, but you can do Gen 4 -> Gen 5 without a real Gen 4 cart. Only thing you'll still need PKSM/PKHeX for is Gen 3 (unless you dump your save and use the emulator method)

I though Gen 4 > 5 used DS download Play to download the transfer app to the console with the gen 4 game inserted, so it doesn't work with a flashcart unless it's a single rom/save device that essentially mimics a legit cart.

I remember when Bank first came out I had to use legit carts and inject my rom saves in to them.

To OP: Honestly I'd just use PKSM to skip the lengthy process and move everything to a gen 7 game then in to Bank, will save you a lot of time and hassle, it's a nightmare moving through that many gens, hell it sucks just moving from gen 1/2/6&7 on the 3DS, never mind including 3,4, and 5.

You're right, I just misremembered how the Gen 4 > Gen 5 transfer worked

To OP, if you still wanna do everything as legitimately as possible, here's the hardware you'll need to obtain (assuming you only have the 3DS)
  • A copy of every Generation 3 game you have save files for (bootlegs might work, though I wouldn't trust them)
  • A legitimate copy of one Generation 4 game (a fake/flashcart will not work)
  • A legitimate copy of one Generation 5 game (once again, fake/flashcart won't work)
  • A DS Flashcart
  • A DS/DS Lite
If you want to make the process a bit faster, you'll need
  • A GBA/GBA SP
  • A modded Wii with GameCube ports (later Wiis/Wii Mini/Wii U with the USB GameCube adapter won't work) or GameCube with a way if running ISOs (PicoBoot, XenoGC, Save Game exploit etc)
  • GBA to GameCube Link Cable
If you want me to write up a guide about how to do it as legit as possible (excluding piracy), let me know

Now that I think about it, a Wii would actually be much better than a GameCube

Here is a "transfer your pokemon" chart someone made a while back.

If you don't have any of the programs required or pre-installed, your upgrade path will be trucated.
