Can an iPod touch screen die out?

    I got this iPod touch 1G from a friend about a year ago. I've used it a LOT so it's been on for 500+ hrs. Can it die out? :|

    Almost all screens die out after a lot of use.

    Based on my own observations, the backlight tends to die long before the actual screen dies... Bar physical damage (e.g. To the ribbon).

    So, my question is why not use the auto turn off function for the device? Are you using it that much constantly?
