i think you buy it by game mode - each piece you buy is then unlocked for as much play as you like AFAIK
if you want all of it it's quite pricey compared to the physical disc that you can pick up for cheap, but if you only want one specific mode it's probably a good way to do it

I liked it too HOWEVER you can buy the physical copy on amazon for around $10 http://www.amazon.com/Tank-Nintendo-Wii-U/dp/B008MO6BMW I highly recommend you buy that instead of buying the entire digital version.
