i tried to update my firmware with devmenu, but now its just a black screen on both. no 3ds light.
is it completely hosed? or is there a way to fix it?

You can make it yourself if you have enough skills and proper tools to work.

The only important advice I can give you is to not lose your NAND file, try to upload to a cloud site or something just in case.

I'm adding the brick causes to the first post, so anyone can read before doing something to their 3DS's and prevent expensive paperweights.

What I meant was that the hardmod installation doesn't apply to them until they fuck something up. They then ask around on how to fix it and get told to do a hardmod.

that one site i translated only shows how to open up the 3ds. it dosnt explain the actual mod.

Use a microSD to SD card adapter and a USB sd card reader.
Just in case you want something visual, XL version:

all the relevant information is in this forum in numerous posts.
Yes it is, but it should be sticked somewhere to make looking for it easier.
