Hacking BrickBlocker / Wiipatcher Needed or not?

I run all my games through wiipatcher because I thought I had to. Now I am hearing that neogamma and the like block updates anyways. Is this true? Am I wasting time? Does using these programs hurt the games?

So far all my games work great but maybe they are missing something I don't notice.

yes, neogamma and all other backup launchers block updates.
Sometimes games don't work after being brickblocked/...
