Hacking Best way to proceed from ofw3.40

I have been sitting on ofw3.40 for the past 6months awaiting an easy jailbreak.
With the release of Geohots cfw3.55 i am now wondering if this is the best option (only require homebrew not backups) or is there a benefit to staying on a firmware below 3.55.

Any advise guys?

If you only plan on using homebrew you can just go to Geohots 3.55 CFW and run them from there, be aware that you will either need to find some signed .pkg's or sign them yourself to be able to install them on the 3.55 CFW, it's a simple matter of 'package_finalize.exe my.pkg' in Cygwin, my.pkg being the file name of the .pkg you wish to sign.

Upgrade to OFW 3.55 first, then go to the CFW.

Didn't 3.50 remove 3rd party controllers and such?
I have decided id go for Kakaroto CFW 3.41 today it does requires you to jailbreak to install the pkg but not to use them.
