Do you have a gamestop or equivalent over there? The game was only like $15 when I bought it.

I have a better plan since it seems to be £15-20 pre-owned online. I'm going to join an online rental service that has a free trial, BOOM! I got bored of the Lego games and I don't want to hold onto it once I've done the hack.

Good idea though.

Quick question...

The IOS236 Installer is supposed to fail after already being used right? By that I mean.. after doing the installer once, if you try again is it supposed to fail with a ret error while telling you something about being higher than 3351 or something (I don't remember the error code).

My Wii is running fine... was just curious.

Hi XFlak,

even though I haven't used your application yet, I would like to thank you
for the effort to make it and also to support it the way you do (60+ pages in this thread proove that), so THANKS !!!

I wanted to ask you you a few questions - I have a 3.1U Wii that I softmoded with a 'dummies 4.1' guide
which was last updated in May 2009 (I just unzipped its content to SD and followed a nice pdf to softmod)

I got it from : http://www.wiiguide.co.cc/

It uses BannerBomd v1, installs IOS16, CIOS249, homebrew channel, Wii backup launcher 0.3, SD USB loader and
GC backup launcher 0.2.
then, It instructed to install cIOS36 (rev 10) and cMIOS (rev 3) which I did.

And it works - I have a few older games like SMG 1 and paper mario which I ran using the backup loader (from DVD).

Since I want to run SMG2 and NSMBW which are newer,I thought that I should update the ios/cios to more recent
one, I was forwarded to your great application for that.

Questions:
----------

1. I saw that you application upgrades the FW - it recommended 4.1 - Why is it better ? if I only want to play
games (I do not wish to have the channels offered in the wizard), can I stay with 3.1U and just upgrade ios/cios ?

2. What do I MUST install from the other components offered in the wizard / which do you recommend
(I am not a sophisticated user, quite a noob, just want to play my favorite games)

Here is what the wizard offered :

* Download HackMii Installer and BannerBomb v1 (with IOS58)
* Download recommended cIOSs and cMIOS
* Download Yet Another Wad Manager Mod (YAWMM)
* Download IOS236 Installer (with IOS36v3351)?
* Download Priiloader
* Download Extra Brick Protection
* Update active IOSs

3. Should I uninstall the channels I have including the HBC before running the installation using your wizard ?
(the 'dummies 4.1' also installed WAD Manager 1.4)

4. I did not see any loaders installed by the wizard, do I need to install applications separately ?

5. I saw the applications on page 2 , which one's do you recommend that I install (I know I should install
newgamma as it is better then the backup loader I have - should I use YAWMM to install it)

Thank you very much, I appreciate your great work :-)

It worked, kinda. It broke my homebrew which was all working fine before. My SNES emulator always dies after about 10 seconds and my N64 emulator will either stay on a black screen with a flashing disk tray or return to bootmii if it's on my SD.

I have an E wii upgrading from 3.x to 4.1, every option checked, already modded and everything worked before (except I was trying to play a wiiware game which wouldn't load so i thought it was time to upgrade.)

IMPORTANT NOTES:

*This guide does NOT require a Wifi connection on your Wii.
*An SD card formatted to FAT(32) required (Best results are with non-SDHC cards, SDHC will only work on 4.0 or above).
*If you get errors during any of the steps reformat your SD card as FAT or FAT32
*Turn off WiiConnect24 and take out all gamecube memory cards/controllers when modding the Wii (unless instructed otherwise).
*If your Wii ever freezes, hold the power button on the Wii for 5 seconds to power it off then try again.
*Don’t ever accept a new Nintendo update without first googling to see if it’s safe. The last update (to 4.3) was released in late June 2010 and is NOT safe to accept. If you accept an official Nintendo update after modding the Wii, you may lose some or all of your modifications.
*Never uninstall a system menu or IOS
*Do not install untested wads/themes without Bootmii or Priiloader installed.
*This custom guide is great start, but Wii modding is always evolving. Check for updates online, and remember, google is your friend.
*If you have questions, a more detailed guide can be found here: <a href="http://www.completesoftmodguide.tk" target="_blank">http://www.completesoftmodguide.tk</a>

1) INSTALLING THE HOMEBREW CHANNEL (HBC) AND BOOTMII

Run BannerBomb v1 by going to Settings, Data Management, Channels, SD Card and choosing yes to load boot.dol/elf
Note: If it doesn't work for you, visit <a href="http://bannerbomb.qoid.us/" target="_blank">http://bannerbomb.qoid.us/</a> for more variations of either version of bannerbomb.

This runs the Hackmii Installer (and silently/automatically installs BootMii as IOS). Use the installer to install the Homebrew Channel (HBC) and Bootmii as Boot2 if possible. If you cannot install BootMii as Boot2, you also need to 'prepare an SD Card' for BootMii (as the 'BootMii' folder is required to launch BootMii as IOS or Boot2).

Note: If you get a 'no vulnerable IOS' error message, run ModMii again and this time select the 'Hackmii Solutions' option instead of 'Download Wizard' and follow the new instructions before continuing this guide.

After you exit the hackmii installer, you will be taken to the HBC.
Hit the home button. In the top right corner you will see the IOS used by the HBC.

If the HBC is using an IOS other than IOS58 or your homebrew channel is upside-down, make a note of it as it applies later in the guide (you will have to reinstall the HBC).

If it is using IOS58 and your HBC is not upside-down, you can skip the Reinstall The Homebrew Channel step when you get to it.

2) MAKING A NAND BACKUP

While inside the Homebrew Channel, load BootMii by pressing home and clicking Launch Bootmii.
Press the power button on the wii 3 times to get to the last option, then press the reset button. [You can also navigate with a Gamecube controller]

Press reset to choose the first option, then follow the directions on the screen to make your NAND backup. [Bad blocks are no problem.]

Backup the Bootmii folder, NAND.bin, and keys.bin elsewhere and erase from the sd card (or rename it). You'll need these in case of emergencies, so don't lose them.
Go back to The Homebrew Channel.

Note: if Bootmii was installed as boot2, then it will show up as soon as the Wii is turned on AS LONG AS it finds the bootmii folder (mentioned above) on the root of the SD card.

3) Installing a Patched IOS236

Start the Homebrew Channel and use it to load the IOS236 Installer.
Note: This app must be launched using HBC v1.0.7 or higher in order to work properly.

Read the startup messages as you are forced to wait,
Push 1 when prompted.

Choose "Load IOS from SD card",
Confirm your choice with the A button,
When prompted, push A to continue the installation.

When asked whether to perform Step 2, Press B to skip it.
Then push any button to exit.

4) INSTALL WADS

Load Multi-Manager Mod (MMM) via the HomeBrew Channel.
If IOS236 is not already loaded, select 'Load another IOS', then select IOS236

Note: If this step fails with error -ret 2011 or other, you may need to retry patching IOS236. If the Wii was previously softmodded, you can try using cIOS250 (or others like 202,222,223,224,236,249)

In Multi-Manager Mod's main menu, Go down to select "WAD Manager".

Install the following WADs in the WAD folder (this list of WADs is unique to how you answered the Wizard's questions).

Be careful not to install any additional wads that may have been previously saved in this folder (they may be safe, but I cannot say for sure).

Hold + for 2 seconds to select all wads in the folder. Then Press A twice to install them all.
After the installation finishes read the install report to make sure all the files installed properly.

You're unique list of wads to install are as follows:

* IOS11v257(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP])
* IOS20v257(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP])
* IOS30v2817(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP])
* IOS50v5121(IOS50v4889[FS-ES-NP])
* IOS60v6401(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP])
* IOS70v6913(IOS70v6687[FS-ES-NP])
* System Menu 4.1E
* cIOS202[57]-v5
* cIOS223[37-38]-v4
* cIOS222[38]-v5
* cIOS224[57]-v5
* cIOS249[57]-v19
* cIOS250[37]-v19
* RVL-cmios-v4_WiiGator_GCBL_v0.2
* Mii Channel (Region Free)
* Photo 1.1 (USA/PAL/JAP)
* Shopping (USA/PAL/JAP)
* Internet (PAL)
* Weather (PAL)
* News (PAL)
* Wii Speak (PAL)

* IOS21v1038
* IOS22v1293
* IOS28v1806
* IOS31v3607
* IOS33v3607
* IOS34v3607
* IOS35v3607
* IOS37v5662
* IOS38v4123
* IOS53v5662
* IOS55v5662
* IOS56v5661
* IOS57v5918
* IOS58v6175
* IOS61v5661
* usbloader(s)-(emulators)-IDCL
This is a forwarder channel that will load the first file it finds from the following list:
FAT:/apps/usbloader_cfg/boot.dol
FAT:/apps_emulators/usbloader_cfg/boot.dol
FAT:/apps/usbloader/boot.dol
FAT:/apps_emulators/usbloader/boot.dol
FAT:/apps/usb-loader/boot.dol
FAT:/apps_emulators/usb-loader/boot.dol
FAT:/apps/usbloader_gx/boot.dol
FAT:/apps_emulators/usbloader_gx/boot.dol
Note: First the SD Card is checked, then your USB Hard Drive (formatted as FAT32).
You should always have at least one forwarder channel installed on your Wii,
that way, in the event of accidental update, you will be able to rehack your Wii
without relying on the Indiana Pwns exploit.

If any failed, make a note of which ones and retry installing them one at time.

Note: Whenever you install a new System Menu, Priiloader is uninstalled. So be sure to reinstall it afterwards (especially if you do not have bootmii as boot2)

5) REINSTALL THE HOMEBREW CHANNEL (if applicable)

Earlier you should have checked what IOS is used by the HBC. If the IOS used by your Homebrew Channel is IOS58 and your HBC is not upside-down, you can skip this step.

If the HBC is using an IOS other than IOS58 or your homebrew channel is upside-down, you should reinstall the HBC.

In MMM's main menu, select 'App Manager' and then select the HackMii_Installer.
Use the Hackmii Installer to fix/re-install the HBC. Once you've successfully reinstalled the HBC, you can move onto the next step of the guide.

If you already exited MMM, you can load the HackMii_Installer from the Homebrew Channel.

If the HBC is failing to load any apps (just blackscreens), instead launch the Hackmii Installer using the method described in the First Step

6) INSTALL PRIILOADER

Run the Priiloader installer from the HBC. On the main menu screen, hold B and press + to install Priiloader using IOS249.
Priiloader may ask for confirmation, say Yes (the installation should go smoothly despite the warning).

Priiloader may give the following two 'yellow' errors. These are expected and are not an issue.
loader.ini couldn't delete error -106
password.txt couldn't delete error -106

Note: If you get repeated errors, first launch MMM via the HBC, then select 'Load another IOS' and Select IOS236 (or any IOS you know is patched). Then use MMM's app launcher to start the Priiloader installer and just press + to install using the loaded IOS.

After successfully installing Priiloader, access it by powering off the wii,
then powering it back and holding reset while it's booting until you see the Priiloader menu.

You should install some system menu hacks now (by going to System Menu hacks option).

RECOMMENDED HACKS: Block Disc Updates, Block Online Updates, Replace Health Screen, Auto-Press A at Health Screen, Disable Deletion of some important channels, Region-Free Everything, remove no copy save file protection, and Move Disc Channel.

The priiloader menu is white by default, you can change it to black in the Priiloader settings if you prefer.

One of the special functions of Priiloader is that it can autoboot any app/file instead of the system menu. Some apps (like crazyIntro) can't be used without it.
For details on how to do so, visit <a href="http://www.completesoftmodguide.tk/system-hacks/priiloader" target="_blank">http://www.completesoftmodguide.tk/system-hacks/priiloader</a>

7) AFTER MODDING

After you are done modding your Wii, in order to avoid having your Wii freeze when accessing the SD Card Menu, you should either delete the 'aktn' folder where bannerbomb is saved (SD:\private\wii\title\aktn), or rename the entire 'private' folder.

Now at this point your practically done.
Now you should be downloading the latest homebrew applications and setting them up on
your SD Card (or FAT32 USB Hard Drive) so they can be launched via the HBC.

For playing your backups off a USB hard drive, run the USB-Loader Setup feature from ModMii's Main Menu

For downloading applications, you should:
* Check out ModMii's batch download pages as it has many popular apps available for download.
* Download Homebrew Browser via ModMii to get many popular apps, but this is an online only Wii application (http://www.completesoftmodguide.tk/how-to-use/hbb)
* For those without internet on their Wii, check out this list of Homebrew applications (wiibrew.org/wiki/List_of_all_homebrew).
Another great resource is webrewwii.blogspot.com

After getting whatever apps you want, you should get a boot.dol file and possibly a icon.png and meta.xml.
For HBC to read your SD/USB correctly, your card must be structured SD:/apps/application name/boot.dol
If you have a *.dol not named boot.dol, rename it boot.dol, otherwise it will not be recognized by the HBC.
(optional: the icon.png and meta.xml should be saved in the same place as the boot.dol)

Questions:
----------
1. I saw that you application upgrades the FW - it recommended 4.1 - Why is it better ? if I only want to play
games (I do not wish to have the channels offered in the wizard), can I stay with 3.1U and just upgrade ios/cios ?

it has the sd card menu, and a full set of system menu hacks that I don't think is available on ur current firmware.

2. What do I MUST install from the other components offered in the wizard / which do you recommend
(I am not a sophisticated user, quite a noob, just want to play my favorite games)

Here is what the wizard offered :

* Download HackMii Installer and BannerBomb v1 (with IOS58) u should update your HBC to the latest version, and also install bootmii as boot2 and IOS
* Download recommended cIOSs and cMIOS definitely
biggrin.gif

* Download Yet Another Wad Manager Mod (YAWMM) this and MMM are the safest wad managers out there, that restrict u from doing very noobish things. It is a great replacement for any other wad manager u may be using
* Download IOS236 Installer (with IOS36v3351)? u don't need it, but no harm if u do it, just use IOS249 or 250 when installing wads
* Download Priiloader since ur wii is old enough, u should be able to install bootmii as boot2, so this is only recommended in your case. But priiloader is great for system menu hacks
* Download Extra Brick Protection recommended, but u got boot2 so w/e
* Update active IOSs definitely a good idea

3. Should I uninstall the channels I have including the HBC before running the installation using your wizard ?
(the 'dummies 4.1' also installed WAD Manager 1.4)

no, wait until after u do the modmii guide to delete any channels u want, and u should do so via the wii system menu, not a wad manager, unless u really know what u r doing

4. I did not see any loaders installed by the wizard, do I need to install applications separately ?

yup, usb-loader set-up guide, its the second item on the main menu

5. I saw the applications on page 2 , which one's do you recommend that I install (I know I should install
newgamma as it is better then the backup loader I have - should I use YAWMM to install it)

the just for fun apps are pretty cool, so is the cheat code downloader, the usb loader forwarder channel, etc.

Thank you very much, I appreciate your great work :-)

no prob

I have a problem with the program. I've tried in WinXP and Win7 and the same thing happens. I have to download around 50 files and when it gets to around 30-35 it just closes with no error or anything. I don't even know what file it gets to because the text is scrolling so fast.
frown.gif
I've tried it with and without saving my wizard settings and it does it both ways.
there was a bug in the initial release of v4.2.3, a very small one but it indeed does cause the app to crash when downloading anything, but I decided to just fix v4.2.3 instead of releasing a 4.2.4 bigfix update.

So for the 70 people who already downloaded v4.2.3, just redownload it, and the new v4.2.3 you download now will work fine

Thanks for the very quick report on finding the bug!

I know it's a little late, but I was gone for the weekend. Just wanted to say that the update fixed the problem and everything worked perfectly. Thanks for the awesome program.

Try uninstalling your homebrew channel 1.0.8 and then reinstalling it with homebrew channel 1.0.7 using hackmii 0.7 (if you uninstall ios58 without doing this homebrew channel wont work and you have to start hackmii using bannerbomb), and after that, uninstall ios58 with wad manager or yawmm.

Reinstall 1.0.8 homebrew channel with hackmii 0.8 (Or just update homebrew channel), then it should use ios 61 instead of ios58, it worked for me then. snes9xgx etc. didnt work for me with the homebrew channel using ios58

Hey XFlak, I may have found a bug. When I use this configuration in ModMii 4.2.3, it freezes whenever it's downloading the shopping channel:

1) INSTALLING THE HOMEBREW CHANNEL (HBC) AND BOOTMII

Run BannerBomb v2 by selecting the SD Card Button on the main system menu screen and choosing yes to load boot.dol/elf

* IOS11v257(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP])
* IOS20v257(IOS60v6174[FS-ES-NP])

This is a forwarder channel that will load the first file it finds from the following list:
FAT:/apps/usbloader_cfg/boot.dol
FAT:/apps_emulators/usbloader_cfg/boot.dol
FAT:/apps/usbloader/boot.dol
FAT:/apps_emulators/usbloader/boot.dol
FAT:/apps/usb-loader/boot.dol
FAT:/apps_emulators/usb-loader/boot.dol
FAT:/apps/usbloader_gx/boot.dol
FAT:/apps_emulators/usbloader_gx/boot.dol
Note: First the SD Card is checked, then your USB Hard Drive (formatted as FAT32).
You should always have at least one forwarder channel installed on your Wii,
that way, in the event of accidental update, you will be able to rehack your Wii
without relying on the Smashstack or Indiana Pwns exploits.

Hey XFlak, I may have found a bug. When I use this configuration in ModMii 4.2.3, it freezes whenever it's downloading the shopping channel:

I just tried the same config as you did, and it worked for me.

wiininja's command line nusd.exe is a little buggy and will occasionally have problems like that (95% of the time, it should work fine though). The original nus downloader will eventually be updated to accept cmd line arguements, when that happens, I will update modmii to use the more stable release.

FYI, if it ever freezes for a prolonged period of time, u can end the nusd process (via your task manager) and modmii will either retry and/or skip that download (without requiring you to restart the entire program... but since duplicated are skipped anyways, it doesn't make much difference).

Questions:
----------

Thank you very much, I appreciate your great work :-)

no prob

Hi XFlak and thank you for your great help :-)

I only want to play games using dvd's, maybe later I will try the usb, but not now,
I don't want games from sd or anything sophisticated, can I keep my 3.1U when using your wizard ?
(I tried to write 'none' but it did not work)

You wrote that I should update HBC to the latest version - if I have HBC and use the wizard will it just overwrite the older
HBC, or I will have 2 HBC (and I should remove the older after I finished with the wizard?)

Last question - what neogamma verson will be installed if I use ModMii ?
should I uninstall the current Wii backup loader 0.3 after installing neogamma ?

Thank you very much :-)

if u want to keep your current system menu installed, just do everything the guide says except do not install the system menu wad in the install wads step. I still don't know why u insist on 3.1... but w/e

You wrote that I should update HBC to the latest version - if I have HBC and use the wizard will it just overwrite the older

When u run the installer, it will install the latest HBC and uninstall the older one (u can think of it as overwriting it, but since they have different title IDs, technically it is not being overwritten)

Last question - what neogamma verson will be installed if I use ModMii ? should be the most recent r9 beta, but it could be a couple revs old cuz its hard for me to keep up with WiiPower's constant updates
should I uninstall the current Wii backup loader 0.3 after installing neogamma ? I would, but up to you

Thank you very much :-)

XFlak thanks for a great guide. Small problem because I'm an idiot. I selected the wrong choice for question 2 in the IOS236 Installer (pirate) and now I can not proceed in the guide. Any help would be much appreciated so that I can use the IOS236 Installer.

If you try more than 5 times you get a 'hint'.

Got it. You just need to play a game and then come back to the installer.

GREAT tool! but somehow I can not get this working on an old softmodded 3.4E wii..
I want to use an USB loader on this console.

Here's the problem:

3.4E Wii Console
TP softmod hack, can load DVD-R games using the DVD-R backup loader channel
HBC installed
cIOSX_rev19 installed
Multi-Mod Manager :IOS installed = 4,9 -17, 20,21,22,23,28,30,31,33,34,36,37,50,51,53,55,249,259.

Problems:
I can NOT install Hermes V4 (black screen with error numbers)
I can NOT install WADS (I used to, but somehow it wont work anymore)

I used ModMii4.2.3
Option W
Virgin Wii = YES (I know its not but I did this for testing purpose)
Firmware = 3.X
Region = E
4.1
Download All channels

Step1: install HBC (I skipped this step because HBC is allready installed)
Step2: NAND backup (I skipped this cause the NAND is not working properly, look at my "problems")
Step3:Installing patched IOS236 --> I can load the installer with HBC but after a few seconds I get a black screen with error numbers....
frown.gif

1.How can this be possible? What am I doing wrong?
2.Can i Virginize the Wii and start all over again? How can I do this?
3.When I update the Wii using the official Nintendo online update, will I loose al "Illegal" stuff?

Really hope someone can help me with this...

2.Can i Virginize the Wii and start all over again? How can I do this? no point, if u want to start over, just dont skip any steps
3.When I update the Wii using the official Nintendo online update, will I loose al "Illegal" stuff? probably... and definitely if u have HBC v1.0.6 or lower installed

Really hope someone can help me with this...I think you may need to read the guides a little more closely... I've bolded some things for u to pay close attention to...ModMii Guide3) Installing a Patched IOS236

So, IOS236 Installer is failing because you haven't updated your HBC to v1.0.7 or higher, you may also want to use v2 of the installer instead of version 1. I'm still trying to put out a quick update so people don't need download v2 manually if they experience problems (but v1 should still work most of the time). Since you already have cIOS249, u don't really need to install a patched IOS236 or even update the HBC, but I recommend at least updating the HBC.

The Install Wads step is failing because you haven't reloaded to an IOS that is patched. In MMM, go to the bottom option on the list to reload to IOS250 (or 236 should be loaded automatically if u decide to install IOS236) then try installing the wads again.
