Hacking best way to compress file

i have about 2.5gb or dpg movies i want to put on my usb drive for safe keeping and clear up my hardrive
i need to compress them to under 2gb to fit on it
what program do i need to use?

i tryed with winrar but it siad it would take like 5hours and i couldnt tell if it would compress it much

7zip should do the job, go for .rar or .7z

also winrar does tend to be rather... careful with its estimates, if you leave it for a while it will go right down. rar will easily compress 2.5 gig into 2 gig

the thing is, videos are already compressed material, so i doubt it will compress much more.

If I remember correctly videos do not compress that good, you won't be able to save half a giga...or I might be wrong...

Right, the DPG format by itself is already a highly compressed format. You're not going to gain very much space at all by compressing them. Same with mp3 files, and JPEG images. Compressing an already-compressed format gains very little.
