I just tried to copy my saves to a usb but it says I have to connect to psn and upload to latest fw which is bs. PS3 didn't make you do that. But anyway could I do it through ftp?

I already had a PS4's HDMI port die and lost hundreds of hours of saves so I want to back them up.

you need to use account activator or else you'll get that message. that's the debug.bin, then google account activator for the app.

that just backups the files from the internal hdd. if you want to do an external backup, the way it's done officially, you have to activate the system. there's no other way.

I'm confused when you say that just backs up the files from the internal hdds. I thought saves were on the internal hdd? That's all I want.

then, you have to inject them manually via ftp. I think they still work, because I've tried it. what you're trying to do is the official way. I think both have pfs, but they're different.

It's not the official way this is what I'm doing and everything I've read says it does indeed backup and restore saves

You cannot use your original saves on fpkgs at the moment, you have to start new save files if you install fpkgs.

The payload is stooged's DB_SG, it dumps the official saves and and database files to USB. As far as I know if your PS4 was not previously activated then the official USB save backup would not work so this works around that issue as well as backing up database files.

that is incorrect. you can use your original saves as long as you inject the keystone. that's part of the base pkg. if it's not there, the save will come up corrupted and you won't be able to continue. that's why it's best to backup your own games.

This scares me about account activator

    Notes & Warnings

It's better to use this program on a new account. If you use it on an old account (with saves and trophies) you'll encounter these problems:
    1. You won't be able to use your old save files easily (the ones created before activation). They'll show as broken. Maybe you can recover them with Playstation-4-Save-Mounter.
    2. You'll have to delete your trophies (via FTP) because they will be signed with the unactivated account and all the games you try to launch will error out.

I've never tried account activator without changing the account id. you could probably save your saves, but I dunno about trophies.

there's a trophy app by the dark programmer that unlocks trophies. you essentially grab two of the trophy files and create a pkg from it. I haven't tried it. you'd better know which trophies are unlocked before you do that. I didn't care about trophies at the time, but now I kinda do, but I'll save that for a legit account.

I guess I'll just FTP the saves to my computer, and who knows if I can ever get them work if I need to ftp them back but I'm not going to risk using account activator and lose the saves i have.

you might be able to use save mounter before account activator. my account was already activated, since I bought some dlc. it also uses the debug.bin payload, then the ftp one. I don't know about al alzif, but x project has both payloads incorporated into one. it works with account activator as well.

I'll test it later today by starting a new game, ftping the save to my computer, deleting the save from my PS4 and sending it back. I'm already copying them to my computer right now.

This is what someone on reddit said

Note that you can't use this method of backing up saves to USB if your profile/console hasn't connected to PSN atleast once. It uses a similar check that the Web Browser uses, but not identical. The Web Browser check is just a binary value in the registry, while the USB Save Backup check value is somewhere else.

The only method of backing up saves currently on a 100% offline PS4 is through FTP. The saves are located in /user/home/profileID/savedata

that may be true, but the moment you assign an aid to it, the saves most likely will no longer work.
