Questions!

I'm on the day one 20.1.1 firmware.

Does express microSD need a separate online update? I've already done the online update prompted by a normal exFAT microSD card.
Edit: It does not.

Does putting in a Switch 1 game cartridge prompt a specific online update to enable the game card slot and/or the backwards compatibility?
Edit: It did not. I'd already done the exFAT system update before this point.

Does putting in a Switch 2 game cartridge prompt a specific online update to enable Switch 2 cartridge functionality?

We need a definitive list of what does what, and what's required for full functionality.

Is there any chance the potential exploit triggers would be similar to those that exist for the PS5?
I'm asking because now would be the time to download games like Hamidashi Creative Demo Version, just in case something like a LUA loader is made for the Switch 2.

Also, I have a Japanese version of puyo puyo tetris, which is one of the few games that let you to open a web browser on the Switch. Any chance it could be useful in the future?

And who should give you a valid answer to this? …but better to have than to need

I could Imagine the Lua Games from ps5 scene are an entrypoit But without Kernel its useless ;) - at least for endusers

I updated my switch and activated the sd card update.

But I initially created a local account on the switch. Should I create a nintendo account and login with the nintendo account? I just want to wait for a jailbreak and maybe play some offline switch 1 and 2 games (that don't require an update).

Also, I used a regular sd card and added an image. When I added the sd card, it updated the system, but when I go to actually transfer the image, the switch says there is no data.

I have the sd card in exfat and added a .jpg to the folder structure somebody gave earlier in this thread..... Nintendo -> Album -> 2023 -> 06 -> 10 -> picture.jpg

You can use a FAT32 regular microSD in fw 20.1.1. No additional updates required. Just D1 update. Exfat and express support do need an additional update

stock fw (19.0.0) cant use microSD cards at all. not even fat32

Game cards have firmware updates. Mario Kart World game card will update the switch to fw 19.1.0. Game can be played but still no microsd support, even fat32

You need to apply day 1 patch to use microsd. But we know game cards have fw updates so you could in theory leave switch 2 in stock fw, then update later on with a game card if necessary and you would have at least microsd support using fat32
Is there one update for EXFat and one for Express or does one update cover both?

i was able to get a MKW bundle and am unsure what to do here aswell..
(still have not managed to order an EXPRESS card which is the best one?)

i have a S1 to use should I leave my system sealed unopened or update it?

I hate the C button as I'll never use the online play feature so if it can be remapped to being something useful it won't be useless anymore.

You can use a regular SD card and it's recommended because if you stay on the original you'll only have 232GB usable storage.

If you go with a 256GB... It's 238GB.

I've updated the DNS on my WiFi connections so when the next firmware is released the console won't be able to download it. :)

Edit : this post contained a question about something that was mistakenly posted online, as it's rectified there's no benefit to anyone and avoids spreading misinformation, so edited. If mods would like, they could remove this post, thanks.

if you update now and activate your console you'll have whatever firmware exists now

if you update in a few months from now you'll have whatever firmware exists then

if you don't update at all, the future stuff might require you to have activated your console previously because at that point the existing latest firmware would probably have patched something

The current so far is 20.1.1.

Just out of curiosity, is 20.1.1 the day 1 update everyone talks about? Because I can see also 20.1.0.

not entirely true.

You can also update fw through game cards. Mario Kart World for examples updates the fw from 19.0.0 to 19.1.0

Don't get stuck on the "day 1" thing. The Switch 2 was shipped with 19.0.0. The MK World cartridge has firmware 19.1.0. There firmware available from Nintendo's servers at the time of launch was 20.1.1. As of this writing it is also the latest one available.

It went straight to 20.1.1 as it's the newest and it includes Express mSD + NS1 compatibility.

I'm a bit late to the party on this one, but I wanted to explain why I decided to update my Switch 2. The console itself is incredibly locked down in it's virgin state. This leads me to suspect that any exploit that happens that don't involve mod chips or somehow glitching the console while booting will likely involve one of the Switch 2's menus, features, or games (likely a Switch 1 game).

If this is the case, big N could make patching it a priority, and anyone who has a virgin console may be unable to make the exploit work entirely. This is underscored by the fact that not a ton of people are going to own a virgin console, and virgin consoles may be harder to hack given the few entry points (they'll certainly be more pointless to hack).

That said, I don't see the point in updating beyond the day one update or linking your Nintendo account. I doubt either of those things will do much if any good.

Yeah, day 1 update + Express seems like the obvious choice. If I was looking for exploits, I'd be searching 20.1.1 since you have so many more areas to attack with S1 game carts and SD Express.

Realistically, I think modchips could be the only way it's exploited fully. But there aren't any games that I HAVE to play on it right now so I'm content just sticking mine back in the box.
