umm... maybe it's just me but isn't contra more of a 2d action platformer than a shooter? not that i'm picky or anything but as far as i know... the term shooter's kinda... misleading. maybe you should seperate 2d shooters from FPS. Also call of duty: world at war is CoD 5. CoD 4's modern warfare. Oooh... and can you add megaman ZX series to the platformer? i really had a blast with that (despite the poor voice acting in ZXA).

    Here's my vote:

    Turn-Based RPG:

    Final Fantasy (series)
    Nostalgia
    Suikoden Tiekresis
    Etrian Odessey (series)

    Action:

    Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
    Phantasy Star Zero
    Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword

    Rhythm:

    Elite Beat Agents
Guitar Hero: On Tour (series) + Band hero
    Lego Rock Band
Taiko no Tatsujin (series, a very good game only released in Japan)

    Platformer:

    Sonic Rush (series)
I'm placing contra 4 here. XD
    Megaman ZX/ZXA

    Racing:

    Sideswiped
    Speed Racer
    Mario Kart DS

    Adventure:

Ace Attorney (series) (i have a feeling this quite feels out of place)
    Hotel Dusk
    GTA: Chinatown Wars

    Puzzle:

    Professor Layton (series)
    Scribblenauts

    Strategy:

    Lock's Quest
    Advance Wars (series)
    Knights in Nightmare
    Final Fantasy Tactics A2

(are dungeon crawlers supposed to be strategy? Like them regardless though/)

    Izuna (series)
    Shiren The Wanderer

    Simulation:

    Rune Factory (series)
Trauma Center: Under the Knife (series)

    Shooting:

    DEMENTIUM: the ward

    Minigames:

not a fan of this genre.

Sorry for the post overload. :3

There, rearranged some stuff. I decided dungeon crawlers (or rougelikes) are mostly strategy since they involve constant planning and shifting movement back and forth between you and enemies.

    here are my votes! [IMG]

    Turn-Based RPG:

    Pokemon ( HG & SS )

    Action:

The World Ends With You (would've picked KH, but TWEWY was just more original)

    Rhythm:

im caught bet ween rhythm Heaven and Elite Beat Agents, actually i loved Ouendan more (the japanese version)

    Platformer:

either New Super Mario Bros. or N+. (sonic rush was great but it was so speedy that the platforming aspect was not as strong as NSMB or N+)

    Racing:

DiRT 2 or Mario Kart DS.
DiRT was more of a professional car racing type
MKDS was more wacky and Multiplayer friendly

    Adventure:

The Legend of Zelda (series) (eagerly waiting for Spirit Tracks on 7th dec)

    Puzzle:

    Professor Layton (series)
would've picked Scribblenauts but there were control issues

    Strategy:

    Advance Wars (series)

    Simulation:

    Animal Crossing

    Shooting:

    FPS : Metroid Prime Hunters
3rd-person : Brothers in arms DS
Side Scrolling Run n Gun Shoot'em Up : Contra 4

    Minigames:

    Wario Ware

Mario and Sonic at The Olympics is a sports game

    Sports :

Either EyeShield 21 or Mario and Sonic at The Winter Olympics

you forgot to list Fire emblem in strategy and Brothers in arms DS for shooting

    Turn-Based RPG:

Dragon Ball Z attack of Saiyans (my vote)
Nostalgia (too bad this was released in 2009 - this could have been better in many ways)
    Chrono Trigger (simply the best)
Mario & Luigi (I try to hide while playing this to prevent criticisms - basically a child's RPG)
Atelier Annie (Battles isn't it's forte but the rest was the best of it)
Rhapsody (I thought this was good)

    Action RPG

Tales of Innocence & Hearts!! (man! those were awesome games - the story was nice too if you can understand hehe)
FFCC: Echoes of time (imo, this was way much better against KH & PS0)
Summon Night Twin age (I can't believe this simple 2d action game is still in my cart for almost 2 years)
THEWY (this is definitely my all-time favorite DS game, this game caused my DSL scratches on the touchscreen and gave me tonsillitis for a few days due to extensive shouting when using that Voice Pin Card) - don't do it on public places though.

    Rhythm

Elite Beat Agent - HEEAAALLLPPPP!!!! Wheres Part Two!!!
    Osu Tatakae Ouendan 2

    Platformer

Castlevania Order of Ecclesia (not in list)
    Contra

    Adventure

    Zelda PH
    GTA

    Puzzle

    Scribblenauts

    Strategy

Shin Megami Tensei (I was surprised this was forgotten to be put in list)
Lock's Quest (we need more tower defense games out here)
    Advance Wars Series
    Knights in Nightmare
    Final Fantasy Tactics A2
    Luminous Arc series (For fun)
    Disgaea (not in list)

    Fighting

    Bleach series
    JUMP ultimate stars
    - Fighting games are scarce on the DS and rarely is it good. Whereas the psp is so abundant with it while having less quality RPGs
(looking forward to God Eater and Phantasy Star Portable2 though)
