use base 56 in slot 249 , and base 57 in slot 250 (for black ops).

you mean, i can have both installed?
You can install the cIOS, technically speaking, onto any slot available. Waninkoko's cIOS is generally installed onto slots 249 and 250, though I believe the installer has options for getting it installed in other slots as well. Just remember to use a different base per installation, since there's no point in installing something of the same base twice.

is very difficult to find the best solution for all

it depends by the combination of hard disk+games+loader used

seem that many use:

249[57]
250[37]
251[56] if you have a loader that use 251

or
249[56]
250[57]

consider that if you use pimp my wii:

249[38]
250[57]

hermes
202[60]
222[38]
223[37]
224[57]

Why remove CIOS250 first?
The cIOSX-Installer creates a backup of Slot249 in Slot250 with v65535, the highest version-number. v65535 = Protected from being overwritten by updates. So i'm not sure what happens if you leave out this step and just try to install another cIOS into that slot. It may give you an error message.

just reinstall slot 250 with wanin installed and the second time is display the correct version v57

Here's my setup, as mostly recommended by ModMii automator

Hermes v4 cIOS
cIOS 223 [37+38]

Hermes v5 cIOSs
cIOS 202 [57]
cIOS 222 [38]
cIOS 224 [57]

Waninkoko v21d2x cIOSs
cIOS 249 [56]
cIOS 250 [57]

cMIOS
WiiGator cMIOS-v4 v0.2

Edit: Update Jan 31 2011

Controllers were lagging when using IOS56 as a base for cIOSX rev20/21
XFlak had the great idea to replace the EHCI module from rev21 with the one from rev19 (the last version known no to have the controller lag), and the lag disappeared. (aka v21_lagfix)
Then, davebaol and xabby666 managed to modify the EHCI module from rev21 to fix the issue. They modified the code handling the watchdog preventing the hard drive to spin down.
You can now easily build WADs for these modified cIOSes (v21d2x, for v21 davebaol/xabby666/XFlak) using to XFlak's ModMii 4.4.7

no update on first post with cios not like you wiibricker

Does anyone have a current recommendation for this? I tried updating some things for various reasons and ended making it all worse. *sigh*

My wii is ver. 4.3U and I *was* using Wiiflow v2.2 r304. I downloaded r417and then tried installing cIOS-d2x-v7alpha1 Fix and I think that's where I blew it.

if u aren't doing beta testing, use the latest official release of the d2x cIOS, which is currently v6 available via ModMii or the d2x cIOS Installer

and if u are doing beta testing, use the most recent beta, which I think is something like beta 5 or 6 (note that beta's are newer than alpha's)

Thanks for your help Xflak, I can see there are problems with v7. I tried running syscheck to see what I screwed up and to give me a starting point to fix it all, and it freezes on 249. A little googling suggests that v7 is the culprit.

At this point I'm still familiarizing myself with everything so no beta testing yet.

Ok so I am using Bseos' setup as a launching point:

Hermes v4 cIOS
cIOS 223 [37+38]

Hermes v5 cIOSs
cIOS 202 [57]
cIOS 222 [38]
cIOS 224 [57]

Waninkoko v21d2x cIOSs
cIOS 249 [56]
cIOS 250 [57]

cMIOS
WiiGator cMIOS-v4 v0.2

I downloaded d2x v6 (as per previous discussion) so I'm not bothering with the Waninkoko stuff and I don't have any GC games so I'm ignoring the WiiGator.

I followed some guides when I did all of this originally. Now that I'm trouble shooting, I am noticing more specific details.

I noticed the Hermes installers ask me to select an IOS to install (249) and then asks me to pick which cios I'm going to install and gives me other, different options (202, 222, and 223). So using the above setup as a guide, I would install all of those cIOSs to IOS 249?

Furthermore, I recall reading somewhere last night that installing in 248 is better than 249. Was I too burnt out at that point from reading forums all night or does that sound right?

Eraserturds.

*note* none of the v5 installs worked for me, so ignore that haha

This is what I recommend, and it's now the standard setup:
202[60]v5.1 rodries mod
222[38]v4
223[38+37]v4
224[57]v5.1 rodries mod
249[56] d2x v6
250[57] d2x v6

I'll try it out Joostin, thanks

Ok things are looking good. Wiiflow is back up and running. Thanks for the help!

I'm still confused about installing 223, etc on IOS249, but I'll read some more on it.

Eraserturds.
You need a patched IOS to install a cIOS. You chose to run the installer with 249 so it could install others.

Ok, so regarding this talk of using 248 instead of 249, I would have to patch 248 first?

A cIOS (custom IOS) is a patched IOS. If you had 248 installed, then you could use it.

So if it isn't installed, then I just plain wouldn't be able to see as an option to install to when I install the Hermes stuff and others?
