I prefer heavy characters like Bowser or King Boo on their normal karts. Purely for the high top speeds and the ability to knock others out of the way.

Mii (medium) and the Nitrobike, top speed with accelaration and a not to heavy character makes this combo a blast, but,,... it depends if you talk about time trial,.. for time trial i would use a big character and the torpedo bike or the bowser bike,..
For online gaming accelaration is more important then speed...

Peach in turbo blooper.
A perfect mix of speed, acceleration, weight, and handling.
But thats only for mii.
You should experiment and find the combo thats right for you...

Not if you have epic skills. Diddy Kong on a Mach Bike for me. Pretty much every top rated player I know uses a high speed/low acceleration vehicle (usually a bike)!
