I orginally bought the DSX for the promised USB debugging which never materialised and the thought of speeding up the, Compile->Download->Execute->Test programming pipeline. Unfortunately you cant leave the DSX plugged into the PC so the programming pipeline is no better then a R4DS. As you can see I'm more programmer then games player

Indeed, that was exactly what I was waiting for before getting one... thankfully I know better than to believe initial product briefs.

But is there ANY flashcard out there right now that supports USB debugging? If any flashcard out there has it, then I'll buy it in a heartbeat!

Theoretically, the AceKard R.P.G. COULD support this, but AFAIK nobody knows if it is even possible to do this. I'd love to be proven wrong though

I wondered if the DS-X team had talent that left early on. They had a strong start, but were seemingly unable to get anything accomplished after that.

That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it: DS-X probably treated one of their most contributing internal members like they do their forum users, and now they are stuck banning people who paid too much for what they got and only realized it after the fact simply because they have no other recourse. It's the good ol' stick your head in the sand problem solving approach of "if I pretend it doesn't exist, then it will go away."

Just read up on the AceKard and it seems to freeze like the DSX when plugged into both PC & NDS, Oh well continue to use the massive IS thingy then!!!

Actually I think your right, if they use the same attitute to their staff as they do with forum members, then there is probibaly only marketing left in the company. You can see it now, isles of empty desks where once creative engineers sat. Desks with dried pizzas, coffee cups overflowing with fungus and the stench of something decaying in the air.

Probably the easiest cart to support debugging would be N-Card and their ilk, unlike DS-X which has next to no open things about it, that USB GBA card has some reasonable samples and could prove useful. There is also the DSSerial, which I presume could give a serial debug interface. I do recall a wifi debug stub a long time ago, but afaik the guy who started it was hired by a company that pretty much forced him to recall/discontinue that line of work.

I do believe DS-X could support USB data interface while operating in the DS, but I'm not 100% sure they made the ability to do so without modifying the hardware. I do know it would require modification to whatever core they use though, and as far as I understand it the FPGA itself can be reprogrammed via the firmware update (which adds whole new levels of complexity, especially if they have locked the FPGA so it is not dumpable) and the EZ USB firmware is stowed somewhere in the X-tremely limited NAND space.

edit:/ Almost completely forgot about this, I never did check back on those forums to see if there even was a response to my offer to create a homebrew which used identical protocols to what Zelda 4mbit to force their hand on the issue of not updating to fix that problem...

Yes right now its core features are amazing and ground breaking, but in six months when other devices hit the market, we want our customers who have paid good money for their device to feel that they have invested in us and our design , not just spent some hard earned cash on a disposable unit. Yes we will have multiple products, but NO we will not let our “older” designs die off in just a few months with lack of support or updates.

ya.. or u could try the new M3 Real. SDHC is a great feature, and I want to try out their cool little smo-motion thing

Plus, you could also look at it as pretty much buying an r4/simply with support for gba/rumble/ram instead of a 3-in-1 + rudolph's tool.

I've noticed a big chunk of one of my posts was edited by said moderator. I wanted to see what people thought about my theory that the project has been abandoned, but they won't officially say so until they've offloaded their stock, or may never officially say so...

I don't like that - replying in a thread and locking the thread, or warning me and explaining why - but CENSORSHIP. It might be an unpalatable topic for them but let's face it, there's not much else to talk about in there!

Oh, that really steps over the line. It takes a lot of time and effort to post in forums (that's why I try and do it from work

) I'm certainly not going to bother if my opinions are hacked to pieces with a pair of scissors and others not knowing that they are not reading everything I said...

It saddens me what's happening because actually, I care. I want this to be my main cart, but as it stands it can't be.

I'd already tried a microsd based solution and quickly realised I wasn't going to like swapping the card from cart to pc reader and back again each time I wanted to add something. I felt that the convenience of usb was worth it. You don't even have to take it out the DS to throw files on it. Quite cool. Unfortunately I read lots of reviews from late 2006 early 2007 before the abandonment had become clear.

Lesson learned - if there hasn't been any communication or firmware releases from a carts team in the last 2 months (never mind 6!) then proceed with extreme caution before purchase.
