Microsoft forced them into this direction, there is no other explanation.

Can you image what the staff meeting was like?

Microsoft: Hey guys, you know how the first 2 banjo games were all cute and platform like? And how it hardly had any guns and vehicles?

Rareware staff: euhm, yea...

Microsoft: Well that's all gonna change now! Our Gears of Wars team has come up with the perfect idea... vehicles! and explosions! And you also need to keep the platforming to a minimum and have a soundtrack with lots of guitars!

Its already been removed, it was only there for the trailer.
