Have you tried turning it off and then on again? LOL j/k I just felt like saying that. Obviously that's part of the problem...

It does turn on by itself. No power button or insertion needed. Many have reported it. It might only be with AutoRCM installed via SX OS though.

I feel like there is something to this, I myself have been avoiding autorcm because of something I experienced even without autorcm enabled. See below->

I wonder if it powers up while not being plugged in, I shut my console down from power menu, and like an hour later i plugged in the sx pro widget and it booted!!! did the widget power it on or was it holding in rcm the whole time, I don't know?
I am not worried about this issue when in sleep mode and in dock or charger, but I am when I travel and want it powered off. I also can not remove auto rcm as I have 5.1 on 4.1 fuses right now

I think it does strangely enough. Let me explain what I've experienced... I feel like in RCM mode sometimes it tries to 'JUMP OUT' of rcm and boot up normally. I always boot into RCM and inject the payload by holding the volume up and plugging in the usb cord. Why do I do it that way? Because oddly enough if I try to enter RCM first (I can tell it's going into RCM because when holding the volume up and holding power the screen stays black and it doesn't boot up showing the N logo...) I can never reliably get the payload to inject, because it seems to 'hop out' of rcm and just boot normally. I find this really strange because I thought once in RCM mode it's supposed to stay there. Or am I just not holding the volume up and power long enough when trying to manually enter rcm first? (it's hard to tell because you get no indication when you're in it, just that you didn't boot normally) Anyway just plugging it in + volume up seems to work best for me regardless.

I surmise that possibly when autorcm is installed, it may be trying to hop out of it and boot normally to horizon but it can't because the boot sector is corrupted (intentionally for autorcm) and so maybe thats what causes it to drain the battery so fast. When that isn't installed it just boots normally and goes to sleep shortly after so it's not so much of an issue.

I don't know I could be wrong about this but it does seem like something weird is going on... It's also extremely odd that with autorcm installed it's so difficult to just be able to power the darn thing off fully, so that's why I've stayed away from it as I like to be able to fully shut it down easily. Plus I'm staying on my lower firmware so I don't have to worry about burning fuses so I can do without it.

that's neat!
but does it actually turn off?
cuz autorcm switch need to power off again with hekate after turn off in horizon

With AutoRCM installed from Hekate? No I don't think you need to send the payload again and turn if off. From Horizon it turns off just fine (at least for me).
Edit: Maybe @CTCaer's implementation of it does not drain battery? I never experienced any issues with it so far.

F all this headache. I’ll just use my jig and keep my switch in sleep mode. I mean, if I’m away from my switch for too long, I keep it docked anyhow. Until I need to remove my micro sd.

Tomorrow once I'm back home, I'll show you a little modification for LEDs that will tell you you are in RCM... Basically look through the back grills of the switch... Turn off and if led remains lit, you are in RCM. We gonna stop this nonsense "RCM am I/aren't I" once and for all.

So I grabbed my second Switch after checking this thread.
I turned it off last week and found it battery drained today.
I used SX OS autoRCM on 3.0.0 Horizon.

CTCaer does not implement AutoRCM any differently than TX. I understand what you are saying but really, the AutoRCM used in Hekate now is briccmii V2 to be more accurate and was developed by rajkosto. It was integrated into Hekate so people would not have to load 2 different payloads to install/uninstall AutoRCM and use Hekate.

EDIT: Nevermind, after further investigation, turns out CTCaer actually uses Reisyukaku's AutoRCM.

I finally got it to shut off and not drain battery. Reboot the Switch from Horizon with the dongle in and hold Volume Up to enter SX OS. Then Options, Power Off. Works!

Now, if I could start the Switch in OFW without a dongle I'd be happier.

Then what is the use of autoRCM if you never turn off and just stay on standby? Lol
Are you serious? Auto RCM is to prevent you from having to use a jig if the console turns off or runs out a of battery. Who the hell even turns the switch off completely anyways?

The Switch is meant for sleep mode, just like a phone.... Do you turn off your phone everytime also? Lmao

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

So what is the definitive method to turn off the Switch and not have battery drain? I'm going on a trip and don't want to have a dead Switch when I get on the plane. And how to permanently uninstall AutoRCM? It's really annoying to want to play a cartridge game and now apparently I need a jig and dongle to do that.
If you turn your Switch off like a Human being". Select " Shutdown " from the Switches options.... The Switch is OFF! If you somehow press the power button, when the Switch is off and don't notice it..... Then it's in Auto RCM...... and that's your own fault.

i thought everybody knew cocktails are like 75% ice
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Yeah but not like this.
  • Veho @ Veho:
It's not like they're complaining that their Slurpee is 99% ice or something, but if the cocktail calls for "shot of vodka, shot of vermouth, shot of gin, shot of Campari, three shots of juice, squirt of lemon" and ends up being a thimbleful of booze, that's a problem.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the funny thing is cocktails in norway are only allowed to have 1 20ml shot of booze
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    so..... yeah
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
we're used to only having a thimbleful of booze

    Booo.

same thing if you want whisky on the rocks or something, you can't get a double
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but you could buy as many shots of whisky (or anything else) as you want and ask for a glass of ice and pour them in
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
    it's dumb
  • Veho @ Veho:
    Maybe.
  • Veho @ Veho:
There was a comparison of the number of Ibuprofen poisonings before and after they limited the maximum dosage per box or per pill (i'll look that up). No limit on the number of boxes you can still buy as many as you want, so people argued it was pointless.
  • Veho @ Veho:
But the number of (accidental) poisonings dropped because drinking an entire package of ibuprofen pills went from "I need a new liver" to "I need a new box of Ibuprofen".
  • Veho @ Veho:
Here we have ketoprofen that used to be prescription-only because of the risk of toxic dosages, but then they halved the dose per pill and sell them in bottles of six pills apiece instead of twenty and it doesn't need a prescription any more. Yes you can buy more than one bottle but people simply don't.
