I have to agree with the 2 posts above, kind of.. except the less censorship and things the worse the world becomes. An example is music and the trend of violent films, and also the ease of access of them and sex (porn) to people of any age. The crime rate in both gang related and gangsta wannabees (music influenced) is more than 50x what it was just 40 yrs ago, the same as sex crimes, since the internet they have exploded, also things like serial killers, there are est. to be over 20 (some say a lot more) in the US alone, at any one time, unlike 20-30 yrs ago, where just one would be shocking and big news. There is no way films and Tv dont play a part in those statistics.
Like anything we need a balance, I think, between censorship and freedom, because unfortunately as total lack of censorship and other lack of laws in similar areas would be most peoples idealism, the fact is most people dont have the strength to morally guide their own actions, and any media-influenced ideas do certainly tip the balance for most, its simply 'human'..
I dont agree that everyone who commits violent crimes or violence in general (video game influenced or not) are all mentally ill, thats just silly, and naive. In fact, it could be argued that anyone who never considers violence, taking in mind we are animals and looking at the proof of our 'successful' evolutionary history, could be deemed the more abnormal, or mentally ill, which is essentially the same thing.. ;p
my 2 cents anyway ..
