Homebrew App Proposal (ban-related)

Is this app a good idea?

But if the sole-purpose of the app is to give a banned console a fresh seed, what would be the point of the app if you had no seeds to give?
If there weren't any public seeds, then the app is useless, as would be the entire usage of public seeds. My hypothetical scenario is contingent upon a public seed scenario similar to the one going on now that has been going on since November.

On top of that, what if the app itself triggered a ban?
Hence the need for the preventative measures I outlined in the first post. The app itself isn't anymore likely to trigger a ban than any other custom app.

If it comes to be, so be it, but it might be better to do a few controlled tests to see what constitutes a ban before working on something like this. You might find certain things had no correlation to a ban, which would cut some of the work you might need to do.

Here's an idea. Implement that to a CFW and expland it.

On boot:

Upload your seed to the server (if it's not there yet) and download a random one. (You get a different seed every time you reboot)

When you get the error code 002:

Delete your seed from the server and download a new one.

People will never go for this. I don't think I would even volunteer to let my private LFCS_B be uploaded to a database. Otherwise, it's not a terrible idea.

Well, we need unbanned seeds to make it work, right? So, it will be useless if just those who are already banned run it.

Hmm... how would you react if this was in the next Luma (or whatever CFW you use) update?

Around one or two unbanned public seeds exist at any given time. The app would just link to that and update itself with whatever the current unbanned public seed is.

In the highly unlikely scenario where the next Luma update forcibly uploaded my LFCS_B without my permission, I wouldn't update.

Oh, to add, my 3DS hadn't been connected to the internet when the banwave hit, and I still got banned. Just glad I don't use online anything though XD

Inarguably, the latest Nintendo banwave for those using homebrew and/or CFW on their 3DS systems has affected a lot of people. By my estimate, roughly 40% of homebrew and CFW users have been banned, with the number likely to grow over time. Considering the large number of CFW users that affects, and the fact that many of these users probably had friends install CFW for them and don't know what they're doing, I propose the following easy-to-use app:
  • It automatically backs up all of the following files affected by the app
  • It automatically randomizes the last six digits of one's device ID in the SecureInfo_A file
  • It automatically downloads and applies the latest public LocalFriendCodeSeed_B file (the URL would have to be applied manually for copyright reasons, similar to how one would get freeShop to work)
  • It automatically applies the proper settings to minimize ban risk (e.g. turning off the Spotpass "share information" setting)
In other words, it's an automatically updating freeShop for unbanned LocalFriendCodeSeed_B files.

Public LocalFriendCodeSeed_B files are inevitably going to get banned, but it usually takes several weeks for that to happen. When the public LocalFriendCodeSeed_B file is banned, the user would just have to open the app and tap the "Unban me" button again, repeating the process with the latest public LocalFriendCodeSeed_B file and getting another several weeks of online play.

This would be the most efficient way of dealing with the bans with regard to LocalFriendCodeSeed_B file-consumption. If we assume Nintendo doesn't increase the frequency of banning public LocalFriendCodeSeed_B files, then by my estimate, twelve or so public LocalFriendCodeSeed_B files would get the entire 3DS community through a year of online play, which is very efficient. Considering that 3DS online play likely has an expiration date in 1-2 years a la Wii and DS online play, that's only about 12-24 public LocalFriendCodeSeed_B files total. If Nintendo increases the frequency of public LocalFriendCodeSeed_B banning, then the project can die, and we can at least say we tried.

I would work on the project myself, but I'm far too busy in my increasingly busy adultish life, and I wouldn't know where to begin anyway. I have a private LocalFriendCodeSeed_B file, so it really doesn't matter to me personally. If the project took off, I would consider donating 1-2 of my spare LocalFriendCodeSeed_B files to the cause.

What do you think?
I have wanted this for a long time. This sounds fantastic and the best way to unban if this comes out.

this whole seed file work around reminds me a lot of the sketchy af scene for keys to get online with a modded 360 i would much rather see a different work around be developed but i have no idea if one is possible and this is one of the best ideas for a solution that i've heard

Interesting, but this seems quite dangerous.
By the way you should try to do it, even if.. where will you take the Seeds?

NO WAY. An intelligently written and useful thread about the ban wave?!

This could make sense although it would write to the NAND every single time and brick chances will be pretty high as it's done more and more times.

I think I have better idea. Everyone know that unique console seed is required to play online, there are bunch of ppl who are selling "private" seeds, although even if you buy private seed until you 100% trust and know you seller, you dont have guarantee how long it will last, because:

* it could be from flagged already console.
* you don't know how many people in reality already share this seed.
* eventually ban reach you again if you use it on the same config.

So, replacing seed all the time can be costly, but NOT if everyone interested in it will pay for it.
For example, create thread where people gather money for public seed, everyone who is interested donate 1 usd (i can afford it, if i want to play every month), and we have public seed for another month, will nintendo keep up with banning these? I don't think so, it could last month if so, and then gather money for another seed if needed.

Yes i know there could be people who won't pay anything and still will use this seed to play online, but so what? that's how online gaming works anyway. There are online games that are only alive due to microtransactions just for cosmetic stuff, there are people who contribute and still leechers, thats how it works.
