Is there anyway to add games to the external hard drive without first having them on internal? Thank you.

It's possible someone will write a program that does this in the future, but until they do then no.
I used app2usb but the ps4 says that I need to format my drive to use it. Any idea what is going on?

Sounds like the ps4 doesn't like the filesystem you formatted your drive with. What filesystem did you use?

app2usb requires you to install the game onto your internal drive first, it doesn't solve your original question.

I did exfat format. It is reading the game from the USB because when I unplug the USB the game says that it is corrupted. Problem is when I go to internal storage to delete the game from the internal HDD,it also deletes the shortcut to the USB HDD. Is there anyway to delete the application on internal memory after it has transfered to USB using app2usb?

This has been deliberately omitted by the people who brought you HEN in order to (try to) get users to focus on homebrew over piracy.

It’s definitely possible, but hasn’t been implemented by anyone yet.

I thought it did. afaik, the game is moved to the external hdd and a shortcut is placed on the internal hdd. the system will say that no space has been added, but in fact, it has. I think the database responsible for the amount of free space isn't updated resulting in an inaccurate reading.

I thought it added the space used to the amount total.

So 500gb console with 450gb free + 20 gb game installed and moved with apptousb reports 470gb free etc etc.

not sure. @Leeful said that it not showing the correct free space was normal iirc. if it doesn't, what I'm thinking above is probably correct.

Either way the game is moved, and isn’t fully present on internal. It’s just a symlink left there so the console thinks it’s still internal, but it’s redirecting to the external hdd.

I unfortunately didn't pay much attention to how much free space I had. I have a 500gb internal with a 2tb external. im 100% the game is loading through the external but in system storage I see the game as internal. I just want to make sure I do not have the games installed on my external also installed on my internal. In other words,I do not want two copies, just one copy on external.

If it’s been moved through apptousb successfully (check your external hdd), then it’s definitely just a shortcut left on internal.

The way apptousb works tricks the PS4 into thinking it’s internal... it’s tricking you too lol.

How it works is that it adds the size of the moved game to the reported total size of the internal storage, the reported the free space stays the same.

Before moving a game= 500gb total internal storage with 300gb free space
Move a 20gb game to usb = 520gb total internal storage with 300gb free space.
Move another 30gb game to usb = 550gb total internal storage with 300gb free space.

Ah yes I got it other way round. Thanks :)

And how I can delete one game that it has moved to the External with app2usb?, just from the system menu and then the folder in the External HD from the PC?

To delete a game that has been moved to USB by app2usb you just do it the usual way.

Browse to the game on the PS4 > select options > select delete.
The game will be deleted from the PS4 and from the USB (if it is plugged in) and any changes app2usb made to the size of the system storage will be undone.

If you unplug the USB drive before you delete a game the app.pkg will not be deleted from the USB and this app.pkg can be used to re-install the game again. (It is an exact copy of the fake pkg you used to originally install the game.)

If you want to move the game back to the internal storage you just delete it from the PS4 first, then re-install the fake pkg as normal.
