Anybody mind explaining to me why we need to "nourish" hair?

Not that it matters but a serious answer. Your hair is essentially dead. Meaning it will break and damage with time. It has no system to regenerate it's self so if we don't take care of it the damage will get to a point where it is essentially a mop head. The hairs will fray from root to end and become easily broken. (Ever run your hand through your hair and notice a few strands come out. It gets worse the longer it gets/more you neglect it.) Either way the idea is to add nutrients and moisture to the hair to help preserve it and stop the damage. Also it helps make your head way less greasy to give it a wash now and then
