GeexBox will do the trick. It plays most of my avi-files full speed through external USB HDD.

the new mod of Mplayer_ce uses the new USB2 cios so its nice at usb loading

you can also setup Samba shares in the config file.

geexbox is nice but its needs abit of a update

    Gambia, The
i use mplayer ce because of the reason i use smb for every movie and every soundfile i play on my wii. geexbox needs a usb-lan adapter and doesn't support wifi that's why i don't use it. as soon as geexbox or better said wii linux gets wifi support i'll use both. the reason is mplayer is failing with playing some files which geexbox plays properly and the other way around.
