Only reverse as far as I am aware. meaning that there is a way to stream applications from your PC to your switch but not from your switch to your PC without a capture card.

There is no possibility as we don't have nvenc for streaming by USB or Wi-Fi. Software way will use too much CPU to think of playing in the same time.
    Only capture card.

Is there any way to output HDMI/DP from the switch, without going into docked mode? So that I can record the gameplay while playing in handheld mode?

The *OLD* 3Ds can do streaming. It is bad but it works.
Now with my 400 IQ, The Switch is stronger than the 3Ds, So it could maybe do that, unless it's more technical. As i mentioned, I have 50 IQ, so i've got no idea.
But maybe we can modify the thing were you record 30 seconds back, to record Indefinitely for videos which is what you're looking for.

The way the video capture works is that is stores the last 30 seconds of gameplay in memory and then copies it to the nand/sd card when you hold the capture button, and extending the length of the videos would use more RAM

I am suprised there is no NTR or KitKat yet for Switch.
old 3ds, and New 3ds can stream wireless. But the best method would just get an elgato or razer ripsaw and record in docked mode.

Cheapest modern capture card is a Roxio Pro $20-$50 if buy it used - supports 720p/60fps - 1080p/30fps. Software WIFI streaming wouldn't be reliably stable
those things were acceptable b/c capture cards for 3DS were extremely pricey. Console cards are more affordable depending on the card's ability

I meant modify it to not remember the last 30 seconds, i meant use it to record like any recording software.

Oh, do you mean disabling the video capture thing so that you can use that RAM for regular video capture software? well, the official video capture uses less than 80mb of ram iirc, idk if that’d be enough.

Only by modified Switch from here
    https://www.3dsvideocapture.com/product-list/18
For now shop is closed. You need to wait (I don't know if it's something regular).

His shop is confirmed to be shutdown from bankruptcy. Its illegal to modify consoles in Japan honestly tho the OP is better off with a console capture card since Katsukity' prices are expensive.

True but if your playing home then it might aswell be docked the OP just wants to make videos with his switch. Being able to stream undocked isn't an option anymore until someone else
continues Katsukity's work or a possible Switch USB stream to PC cfw software similar to the PS vita stream plugin.

Maybe if he wants to capture specifically undocked mode, maybe he wants to make tech stuff for Switch games like Digital Foundry. They bought modified unit before shop was closed. :D

Well we can only give him advice on whats available his options are limited b/c theres no software out there to give us the ability to stream from our Switch undocked or not.
Spending $200+ just to capture footage undocked is not worth it either way thats $100 short from buying a new Switch.

I really don't see why it's not possible to mirror cast from the switch, less powerful phones with a 2.5ghz connection can do it even if it is choppy at times, I would think with the switches 5g connection and some optimization it would work pretty smooth, but from a development standpoint I don't know what kind of limitations there might be, or hurdles to cross, at the very least I would hope the possibility would be examined before simply disregarding the idea.

F.e. no support from manufacturer of hardware and software? It's not hard to think. :P
That's why comparising to phones is stupid. We don't have that much advanced tools to do it. People are working in reverse engineering to brings as much to homebrew dev scene as possible.
Lacks of hardware video acceleration (NVEnc/NVDec) is one thing that limits this idea.

Who is "we" do you develop for the switch either homebrew, or officially? I have no idea what tools are at the disposal of the developers, and don't claim to, simply saying that without any kind of explanation, credentials, or proof to back it up is not going to convince anyone.
