Hacking Any way to get the wood kernel on old r4itt?

I know it's a bad card but when I bought it I didn't know that.

So I'm stuck here with the r4itt(The one with screw on the back), I would buy a new one but they're pretty expensive where I live so that is out of question.

I'm currently using this kernel:

The one that RetroGameFan made, but I want to use the wood kernel because it looks cooler and doesn't have this horrible background music, YSMenu work as well but I don't want to lose my save files.

Since I'm having freezing problems with Pokemon Platinum(Underground freeze and when I talk to Maylene), I know the wood kernel has better compatibility so I want to use it.

I tried following this guide:

but it didn't work at all.

When I try to download the latest version from www.r4wood.com all games freeze on the loading screen, so it doesn't work.

Anyone has any ideas on how to make this work or it's completly impossible? If it's impossible am I using the best kernel or should I use another one? And how can I remove the terrible background music?

EDIT: I'm using the DSi if it matters.

Just stay with YSMenu. But there's probably someone here who can tell you how to disable the music. Did you check the settings?
