Any good computer cleaners for free

CCleaner isn't really to free up space just to remove files that shouldn't be there/pointless. But it likely won't remove anything but a few GB at most. If you want to figure out what files are taking up the most space you can use some programs for it. Treesize free shows you what places on your drive are taking up most space. Just use your own discretion and delete away. Obviously don't delete system files (windows folder) and be careful of deleting stuff in appdata (or you'd lose savefiles, browser history, cookies, passwords etc etc stuff like that)

For Windows? Not really. The stock disk cleanup itself functions pretty much nearly identical to CCleaner, CCleaner just also includes clearing various browser data as well...which you can just do in your browser. It's not really meant to free a ton of space, just "cleanup" certain folders which isn't all that useful.

If you have a small HDD, you're probably better off using Linux instead of Windows, as Windows is generally a quite bloated OS. You can use something like Windows 10 Lite, which would remove a lot of the general bloat Microsoft shoves in your face for Windows 10, but it's unlikely to remove more than a few hundred MB at most.

If you absolutely have to have Windows, try one of the various modified Windows 7 Lite builds that are floating around the internet. It'll clear up HDD usage from Windows to barely a few GBs, vs the ~20GB or so 10 needs now.

EDIT: Oh, and there's also the Compact function available in Windows, which will compress your OS files by a fair amount (usually clears around 3-4GB for stock Windows installs). Just note that it might increase load times a fair amount on boot.

how do you compact files

360 total security has a cleaner built in. it will delete unused, duplicate, and unneeded files.

Open up CMD prompt as an admin, and run the following:
Code:
compact.exe /CompactOS:always
And let it run. It'll compact the Windows directory, saving maybe a few gigs at best.

Press the prntscr key on your keyboard. Assuming it's a laptop, it's probably an Fn key.

Then, go to imgur.com and hit CTRL+V to upload the image to upload it. Then paste that link here.

I suppose a good question at the start might've been what version of Windows are you running?

If Windows 10, that should've worked just fine so long as you copied and pasted it exactly as shown.

If not Windows 10, then the command won't work, as it was only made available starting with 10. I believe Windows 10 has a slightly smaller footprint than Windows 8 or 8.1, so it may be worth it to either upgrade to 10 and run the compact, or downgrade to one of the various Windows 7 Lite builds.
