I've been using Alcohol 120% for so long it's one of those indispensable programs. Now I got a new laptop with Vista installed on it, when I try to install a copy of Alcohol 120% I got from a torrent, it keeps crapping out on me because it connects online and instantly invalidates the copy of Alcohol 120%. Since I never bothered turning on my firewall, I never figured out how to prevent it from connecting online.

My question is, what's the best/second best program for making backups and burning images? Yeah, I have IMGburn but it doesn't seem to want to make backups of CDs

Edit: Ah fudge. I posted in wrong area. Can a mod move it please?

IMGBurn is my app of choice for burning and making general CDs http://www.imgburn.com/ , Daemon tools as virtual drive http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Daemon_Tools.htm . Burrrn is good for audio CD creation http://www.burrrn.net/?page_id=4 .

For ripping DVDs DVD decrypter and ripit4me http://www.ripit4me.org/ . A whole slew of other apps back this up but they are not necessary.
Audio: Easycdda extractor or exact audio copy. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Exact_Audio_Copy.htm
Images of discs, consoles I tend to favour specific tools if they exist. Other than that clonecd or cd manipulator (a freeware alternative, if not as good): http://www.free-codecs.com/download/CD_Manipulator.htm

@Harsky I find this array of apps actually surpasses nero or any other all in one app I have ever used, not to mention it is free.

Oh and although imgburn can build images these days folder2iso helped me out in the early days: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_so.../folder2iso.cfm

UltraISO ( http://www.ezbsystems.com/ultraiso/ I assume) is about the only app related to CD/DVD burning I would consider paying for, it is really good for tweaking images and extraction of weird/uncommon ones.

The reason I am hesitant to suggest a single app is that modern games and some general apps have a nice bit of protection as I am sure you are well aware, this means a variety of more specialist tools are needed. You can also copy the image with a generic tool and apply a so called fix.
For simple stuff though folder2iso or imgburn will do the job though.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

They probably said "Hey, why not we combine the two together and make a 'new' DS to sell".

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

    It's not a Nintendo / iQue official product, it's a 3rd party custom.

Nothing special about it other than it's more comfortable than the Lite

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.
  • AncientBoi @ AncientBoi:
    I don't pirate them, I Use Them :mellow:. Like I do @BigOnYa 's couch :tpi::evil::rofl2:

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
