Assuming that you are on android:
For FTP, you can use AndFTP (free on playstore) to transfer NSP files on the switch and install them via Tinfoil/goldleaf/other, just remember the 4GB limitation on fat32. For USB install from a phone, i don't think there is something like that.

No, but if your phone has an sdcard slot you can use that, get a file manager on your phone, download cfw and extract it to the sdcard. You can also get an sdcard reader for your phone if it doesn't have one built in. That might a bit more challenging on iOS, but I'm sure there are apps that can read the sdcard and download files.

That app might work, looks like it can access files and unzip them, worse case you'd download the cfw zip, upload it to gdrive/dropbox/etc and pull it from there to the app.

Yes, but this would be the best option if just there was no need to turn off switch and the phone as well.
Also, the problem still remains for the files bigger than 4GB
seconding getting a FTP client on your phone, it's a mostly reliable method, and you can get around the 4gb limit by finding a file splitter. we're probably not getting nspsplit for android anytime soon, but you can just put it in a zip file, split that, then extract the split file with nx-shell.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.+1 -

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.+1 -
