Because you made absolutely no effort to differentiate between what you were quoting and what your response was. It was just one gigantic quote tag, which most people just assume is a straight quote of the original post, and skip over it. I for one am not going to scroll up and down and up and down on the page just to figure out what the differences are between the two blocks of text. Either use multiple quote tags in the same post, or bold your responses, or SOMETHING so that people know who said what. Only then will people actually bother to read what you have to say.

Im Inylo said:Am I seriously the only one who thinks homebrews are baaaad! I mean, maybe it is because I like RTS, RPG, TD games, and there really arent any on homebrew, or maybe I HATE the cheesy graphics...
Well can anyone recommend any Action, Adventure, RPG, RTS and TD Games?
Thanks

It's not about "what can we get for free", it's about "can I make this game the best I can". Furthermore, Dragonminded and Moonlight primarily make utilities, not games, so there's no comparison. It's not nearly as hard to make a commercial-grade utility as it is to make a commercial-grade game. Game development, especially for a one-man-army, is a highly technical art where you have to be the master of many areas of expertise. However, I see people all the time not bothering to even consider improving in areas in which they lack. There's no shame in asking others for help, especially if you really do want to make the best production possible. There are plenty of graphics artists, musicians, writers, etc. out there to help you out if you approach them correctly.
And furthermore, all these personal attacks in this thread are unwarranted. All people have the right to express their opinions, whether you like their opinions or not. Im Inylo could have used a bit more tact but not everyone is an English major.

The best homebrew game I've played is actually a card game...Spider Solitaire DS by jt0. Solid gameplay, consistent interface, and plenty of polish. Anguna, someone mentioned...is NOT an RPG, not even close, and is lacking in a great number of ways. I had the chance to try a demo of someone's more traditional attempt at an RPG...it uses graphics from RPG Maker XP, which wasn't bad, but the tiles and sprites are so large that it looks like there's not enough perspective. I personally long for decent traditional-style RPGs...so I'm writing one myself.
Long gone are the days of valiant attempts at commercial-quality games, it seems. Most homebrew DS game developers, I believe, have the "it's only the DS" or "it's only homebrew" problem. Just because it's a DS or it's homebrew doesn't mean you can't give it your best effort. They need to stop making excuses and do the best job they can. "But I don't have an artist!" So? Find some tiles and sprites online, or read up on one of the many thousands of pixeling tutorials out there and get the job done yourself. "I can't make music!" modarchive.com is your friend. "My coding isn't good enough!" So learn. There are, again, thousands of tutorials out there. "I can't make sound effects!" No excuse for this one...there are more WAV sites out there than music, coding, and pixel art sites combined. And if you can't find what you want, make them yourself! It doesn't matter if you have to go out to Radio Shack and buy a cheap $10 mic and then fart on it to make samples, it's better than nothing! "But I don't know how to convert samples!" Go get a copy of switch or sox and learn them.
This is not a call to war or an attack on homebrewers. It's a call to action. There are some brilliant minds in the DS scene and it's a real shame that better work isn't being produced. Stop lamenting over the supposed technical limitations of the DS. The only limitations are the ones you impose upon yourself.
This is so completely true that it is not even funny. If you seem to think that all of the homebrew games suck, why don't you try to outdo the rest of us at coding games? It seems that this thread has turned into complete uselessness. Honestly.Eponasoft said:I too believe that there is a severe shortage of decent homebrew games. Point to where I said all homebrew games suck. If you can't find it, then I suggest you re-read what a person says before speaking with a confrontational attitude.technodialga9175 said:If you seem to think that all of the homebrew games suck, why don't you try to outdo the rest of us at coding games?
