All I can say is, don't buy those super cheapo $5-10 ones off eBay... I made that mistake and it broke a month or 2 later. Spend a bit more and get something that won't instantly break.

I got one that has had hundreds of 4.5/5 reviews, and it seems to be working well, from Amazon and not eBay.

Personally, after much research and spending several hundred quid on different ones. I ended up using a Ligawo switch.

I paid just under £100 for mine, if you go for the more expensive ones in their range especially, then there pretty damn good.

I have this one and it works perfectly. It includes a remote and an external IR receiver so the box won't need to be visible, but there's also a button on the box itself to switch sources.

I've bought a couple of random ones on Amazon before. From my experience the bad reviews are almost entirely written by some seriously tech-impaired people that are confused by why accidentally turning on their PS4 via the controller changes their TV input, or something silly like that.

At the end of the day, HDMI outputs a digital signal so you won't really get image degradation. Just make sure if you have a 4K screen that the splitter is 4K compliant, and if you have a surround sound system then check that 5.1 surround sound channels go through the splitter, or better yet, it might even have a separate digital out for audio (e.g. one of mine has a toslink jack)
