Well, self-government would mean to deal with issues between peers without appealing to a superior entity. Users (citizens) govern themselves without electing or otherwise placing someone *above* them to be governed by. As fond as I am as a model of society without hierarchy, I understand it is not completely compatible with human nature, and prone to develop flame wars (here) and violence (in real world). Also, GBATemp is not comparable to a natural society since, by its nature, it has members who legitimately own and lead the community, as opposed to the (unfortunately theoretical) "all were born equal" in real world.@xenon: Hopefully people won't report wantonly, but if you are about to let loose on a troll, don't.. please report it instead. I've seen threads go south within a few minutes, and I can't be around all day hunting. If someone reports a post, my mail proggy goes *ding* and I check it out. I don't think users "policing" each other is contradictory to self government at all, I think it promotes it.
I think that's going to be a problem, seeing as how the average age of members is now 12. (Thanks, everybody who posted about the R4 on Nintendo's forums!)

By the same token, I can't see anything to suggest that you don't think yourself above the mods and admins. Perhaps this is just a problem of perception. You are rather a daring bloke, are you not? I sense quite a bit of pride backs that up as well. I have humbled myself amidst the members of this board on more than a few occasions, and second-guess myself constantly as I moderate. I don't mean to set myself forth as a shining example or anything, but to date I have had few complaints against me. I get rubbed raw from time to time, and that can get me a little stern, but certainly it's the exception, and not the rule. I don't think your statement holds water, except as an inflammatory device to invite challenge."self-governing" implies the mods and admins think themselves above the normal user - I can't say I've seen anything to suggest they think otherwise![]()
yeah some 7th grader or someone at my school bought an R4 cuz of that...

Please forgive my language, it's been a long day on several levels, and I'm about to fall the hell over. Seriously. I hope you take my point well.
edit: Oh, and xenon, well put. You sound like someone I'd enjoy coffee and conversation with.

Just dun turn into another Tempest Stormwind
