if the avg age is 12, then to help filter this out why don't you add a age verification and limit of 13, many forums have those type of restrictions. I'm sure there will be people that will still ignore it but its worth a try.
Age != Intelligence

I'm 15 but I like to think I behave better than a lot of people *cough*chavs*cough*

Actually some 12 year olds have better manners then those older.

You can't really excluded a section of people just because of some let the others down.

About time this happened, and looking at some of the replies you already seem to know who it's aimed at...

One of the main reasons I like GBATemp is that the focus of the site being primarily on Nintendo prevents a good deal of the flaming that occurs on other game forums. There's a lot less people screaming why one platform should be hated by everybody. Pretty much everyone here likes at least one of Nintendo's current systems so we all have something in common.

Perhaps if people got an an anonymous, automatic message when they were reported they could self police themselves better, making it so the moderators only had to step in to deal with the real jerks. This is of course assuming that part of the problem is people who don't quite know when they are stepping out of line. If the problem is just straight up jerks then this won't work.

errrr.... ??? isn't this understood happenings on a forum. Should keep the main page news to stuff related to the usual, this strikes me as quite odd to see on the main page.

I agree with this topic, can't stand the needless baiting going on, about such off topic stuff as English language compared to US language etc when its not even related to the game...... I prefer to stay within normal sanity levels and forum guidelines.

What also annoys me is the stupid posts like

"going to try this later"
"downloading it now"
"looks interesting"
"First!"

etc

They just look like ways to bump up your post count or show you can get the rom before anyone else......

Anyhow, where can I download the rom for this ?

I agree, I have to catch myself responding to the stupidity sometimes. Some people enjoy the anonymity of the internets a little too much.

I wouldn't say this is a crisis, but the site has noticeably taken a turn of late. My intention was to post something like this in Off-Topic, the decision to put it on the main page came from higher up. I understand where you're coming from though. I would say being on the main page has the benefit of being noticed by those that don't frequent the off-topic areas. So if someone who only goes to, say, the R4 section sees it, all the more better.

We just want to throw up a bit of a flag. I actually and honestly do think that many of the offenders have simply not read the forum rules, and hey, if Psyfira didn't know where the REPORT! button was, I'm willing to bet that somebody that just joined last month would be even less likely to know about it.

The practice of reporting every single minor issue to an authority (mods) contradicts the principle of self-government that is promoted in the initial post, but well... common sense always helps.

It'll eventually get scrolled off. I'm just sick of bad news and complaints lately, get enough in every day life as it is. I would suggest having a link to the forum rules that is obvious such as in bold. That space is going to become occupied shortly with a review of a hardware or another contest. You'll get new users here and there and they won't even have heard of this topic. Is this place turning into gamefaqs? I have no idea, I guess you could compare it to anywhere. I don't really do much at all on gf, but people seem to complain on nearly every forum. I've noticed that some car forums don't really have this. I guess it depends on the age and mentality of people. For example not all car forums have the bickering but if you compare mustangforums to thesamba, you'll notice a HUGE difference. Less arguments/fighting for mustangs, more petty crap in volkswagens (I guess this makes sense because the poor/uneducated will migrate to the cheap commoner's car and the people with more sense and smarts will go for the more expensive vehicle, in this example a Ford sports car). But yeah I got so sick of samba that I quit going to it, I do my volkswagen stuff on my own. Gbatemp is cool but I stop coming sometimes because it's just an every day thing, gets kinda old..I don't mind any of the users. A few can latch on and become annoying and follow you to irc and whatnot, but that's what the /ignore and /mode +b *!*@* is for.

The reason I'm not such an active member lately is also because some of these things.

It's over crowded with people who I'd rather not be around.

Q~

A "VIP" area? I think that's a good idea (if you let me in, of course)

I think that new members should only be allowed to see certain parts of the forum and then after say maybe a month get access to the rest of the board.

I for one, think that the making of a VIP area and restricting new members to just some parts of a forum is a real bad idea. Not only is it a huge turnoff to newcomers but I think that restricting someone just for beeing new and not for how they are as people and behaviour is just downright wrong. I dunno about you guys, but I like an open forum =P Don't get me wrong though, I think the rules should be taken very seriously....just sayin' that no ones perfect

I think it all comes down to respect and understanding really, just do those two thing and everything will be allright

I mean..i'm only 17, not the brightest, strongest, tallest guy etc. on the planet, but atleast I try to understand and respect people as much as i can

@xenon: Hopefully people won't report wantonly, but if you are about to let loose on a troll, don't.. please report it instead. I've seen threads go south within a few minutes, and I can't be around all day hunting. If someone reports a post, my mail proggy goes *ding* and I check it out. I don't think users "policing" each other is contradictory to self government at all, I think it promotes it.

I've had reports about posts that in the end I did not act on, in fact it happens often. If however, someone reports something that I'm going to let slide, I will usually talk to the reporter to get a scope of their issue. One post I recall not too long ago, left the reporter incensed, I mean steaming. I didn't see what the problem was, and as it turned out, it was my ignorance of a purely regional insult that caused me to mistakenly ignore the report. I'm a little more careful since then.

   Well, said, mthrnite! These forums should be kept in good condition, and you're doing a great job, now all that's left is support from the members to do exactly what you said. Now you must build you little GBAtemp army to conquer all!!!1!

I'm not accountable for my actions if "GBA_Temper" comes in here ranting about this, just so you know

A lot of forums have VIP area, maybe only 1 board, for higher-level discussion. Most of them are by posts, but a nice quiz should suffice
