A straight question

As a child, there's nothing better but playing video games

I still remember the days I begged my mother for a PSX, now I realize it's not the best action

Now, that we children has grown up and will soon become parents, I started to wonder: Will I do the same thing like my mother did: buy my child a PlayStation?

I never realized Indonesian economy was so badly struck by Monetary Crisis back in 1998, yet I still beg for PSX in 2000, now I know what it means to "keep spare money for emergency use" and PSX was no emergency item at all.

I know how it feels to be a child and beg for video game consoles, but really, while I'll gladly give myself a PS4 or XBOX 720?

I'm still thinking about will my child get them.....

Your thoughts?

Err...
I would give my children a nintendo...
No, I won't.
I would buy myself a nintendo, and let them play on it once in a while

Our economy kind of sucks but my folks still bought me consoles and stuff, but not to the point that they bought me EVERYTHING I wanted, I guess I'll be a bit more strict to my kids, but maybe I can also use game consoles for family bonding and stuff, my whole family used to play Tekken or NFS during weekends heehee, you can buy your kids these stuff, just don't spoil them too much.

+1

A console can be really bonding.
My 2 little brothers (4 and 6yo) and my mom love it to play like, wii sports with all of us...
And my brothers keep begging me to play De Blob with them...
The thing is, everyone likes to game on the wii...
And I don't think Nintendo is ever going to lose that idea...

yeah, but problem with Indonesian family? No time for playing, period.

Somehow, my parents never understand how to play Super Mario Bros (and that's the truth), I can understand, they're born in 1950s and they have work waiting for them, another point is boys nowadays, no action = no deal. They won't appreciate the fact that playing Pokemon Blue/Crystal is just as fun as playing WWF (which is not enjoyable at all, for me atleast), what do they want? Naruto, Gundam, WWF, DotA(PC online), Perfect World(PC online), Audition(PC online), shit, where's the respect for home console?

Another fuckin' problem is the fact that this is Indonesia, meaning Internet Gaming is a big no no, and that hurts alot

More fuckin' problems? Kids don't understand English

I can only hope my family is like a happy American family, together playing SPORE, Mario Golf or such on the weekend, me, my wife, and my children...... that way we won't spoil them too much and I won't tell them what an "I/O" button do

My folks are like 40, and they can keep up with me and my sibs in Tekken and NFS, tbh, my dad rocks at racing games while I horribly suck at them, except maybe Mario Kart or Burnout, but Burnout isn't really all about racing, I guess I just enjoy the road rage and flying cars and parts, anyway, the point is, age doesn't matter! You can try making a schedule for family game time, try looking for a certain time, even for just an hour, that everyone is free! And I also never understood WWF or any wrestling game for that matter, they aren't fun at all! Oh and DotA is big over there huh? I'll take you on! Hahahahaha!

The wii is my daughters, I just play games on it.

She also has a xbox that she uses for games and to as a media centre (xbmc). She plays PSX/PS2/Wii/Xbox/360/N64/SNES/MD/NDS/PSP/Amiga and arcade with me and alone.

She is going to be getting a candy cab of her own soon.

Absolutely. I plan to give me children what I always wish I had, so they're gonna be spoiled as hell.

I'll but them whatever system is out and then play it xD I'll pretend it's for them and hog it all the time.

I really want to give my future kids what I didnt have as a child.....

and thats dancing/singing/instrument/sporty hobbies.

My mum used to just play video games with us... I've been a gamer since I was about 3/4 years old. All my friends would have dancing/singing lessons and I'd be at home playing videogames with my mum.

I think I'd probably have whatever the most social console is... so the wii at the moment. but really limit it to like family time only, and only when they are over 7!

biggrin.gif
and I'll p0wn them to no end until they hate playing, then I'll conquer those consoles alone =D

Honestly no, I would not buy my son a video game system -- whatever I buy is for the family to enjoy, and that includes him, so if he doesn't like it, too bad. I would never buy him his own. If he wants his own, he can get a job and buy it with his own money... Won't have to worry about that for a while though, since he's only 2.

My children won't be allowed near any electronic entertainment till the age of 5, and nothing violent till they find out for themselves. Gaming wise, I probably will buy them consoles but I'll use it as a sort of bargaining chip for when they're getting a bit too difficult to handle. My mum used to do that all the time to me and it worked great lol.

I also will heavily monitor their gaming and gaming habits. I don't want my son growing up playing the likes of GTA IV etc or being a sore loser.

I'll give them only one console that's owned by 50% casual and 50% core games. I don't want them playing with quitters. For the games, I'll make them earn for it (savings from their allowance) and at the same time I will give them games on special occassions.

At the same time, I would let them spend time with family by going to different places, hang out with mates. I'll make sure that they don't get glued to video games.

I'd just give them my old PSX and games like Toy Story 2 and tell them to fucking enjoy it cause that's all they're gonna get unless they save up for their own damn shit. Spoilt kids nowadays.
