This article was posted at crossbar-inc.com on August 5. I'm surprised no one has already posted something about this, considering the time it's been out. Well here's the article for your enjoyment.

    http://www.crossbar-inc.com/events/press-releases/crossbar-emerges-from-stealth-mode.html

Basically it says that Crossbar Technologies is creating a chip that could potentially store a TB of information and charge your electronic device for days/weeks/years (not that I really believe the years one). I would love to have one of these, considering how I have to keep my laptop plugged in to an outlet constantly.

I knew that SDXC chips' spec could theoretically go up to 2TB ... but until now I didn't think anyone would actually be manufacturing something that size for a long time to come.

    Very nice.

But but what're the IO rates like in real-world scenarios?

Maybe half of the TB? But that's still a lot of space. Maybe a quarter? Guess we'll have to wait and see on this one.

A chip can charge your phone without a battery now? That's new to me.
Well I guess we'll see SDXC hitting it's maximum capacity pretty soon :P

Edit: Seems like the OP misunderstood the news post, all it does is reduce battery usage. I am not buying that "months or years" thing, as the main battery drain on a smartphone is the screen. The CPU also consumes a considerable amount, of course.

    I forgot
IO rates = input/output rates, as in how fast does data read/write from the device.

Anyways, I sort of doubt this will be available in a consumer form anytime soon maybe. Some time in the next 5 years or so IMO. But yeah, stuff like this is pretty cool

It'll be pretty fast, I'm sure. It better be pretty fast, considering how much data it can hold.

I just hope it's not tera-ble... like that pun. And this one: Because shitty IO rates tera-bite.

Don't blame me, I'm a victim of my environment.

All I saw on Latest was "A new chip that can hold..." and came in here thinking it was a new kind of potato chip that could hold more dip.

    Not gonna lie, kinda disappointed.

Well with all the technology they're coming out with, I wonder if they could do something like this. :) That'd be awesome.

The article says 20x the rate of NAND ... but of course that's probably peak transfer rate or something like that. We'll have to wait until something benchmarkable actually comes out on the market.

Pssh. I want 10 Terrabyte SSDs, THEN we can all talk about how magical unnecessarily large SDs are.

does it charge ur phone or rather consume a charge capacity that will go on for weeks?

how long until these can be used because seagate has come up with an ULTRA SLIM 500GB HDD for tablets
