My nephew's XL unit which was bought brand new and he is the original owner. But while unclipping the ribbon for the top LCD that is under the motherboard when you flip it, the cable was partially torn near the bend where it gets wider. I would say it spreaded across 6 gold contacts. So I didn't proceed to change the camera as I wondered how the top LCD still worked in that condition. And surprisingly when put back together, the top LCD worked as normal. 3D worked and all.

Does anyone know if not all the contacts are being used when clipped in? I don't know what to call the them but it is the gold contacts in the ribbons. And the tear was across 6 of them.

I know there's at least three cables that go up top. One may be the inside Camera and IR light. The other may be the screen and the last for the camera on the outside. The wider one may be for the 3D functionality. I would try testing these and see which fails to work. You may not get a camera feed, or the system might crash altogether. Should tell you then.

Thanks. So from what I do know, the skinny one is the 3D/Volume, the top fat one is the camera, and the bottom one is the LCD. It is the bottom ribbon when you unclip from underside motherboard that has a tear in it.

Testing it everything LCD related works. But I am kind of surprised it does still function as the tear does go across 6 gold lines on the ribbon. So hopefully someone who know the layout of the ribbon may now if not all of them contact points are used.

I will never understand how people manage to tear these. When I was in high school I used to kick a psp I had like a soccer ball for shits and giggles and the thing never broke so how do people manage to tear them?
