Further off if they have to go through all the games and make sure there's no 3D upskirt shots.

Interesting, I really am convinced that EU will get it before Christmas.

I'm guessing...

Nintendo would have gotten a lot a feedback on the 3DS from E3, i'd expect that it will take 1-2 months to finalize the design. Another 2-4 weeks to tool up the factories. Another 2-4 weeks to produce enough of them for launch week in Japan. Then 1-2 weeks to ship them to their hubs, and then another week to get them to retailers, and another week to make sure all retailers have stock.

So I think it's possible for them to do a November launch for Japan.

For the US/ EU launch, they need to produce many more consoles for launch week which is one reason for the delay. The other is it will take them 4-6 weeks to ship them from China as they ship by boat. Japan is just next door to China.

So As I said in the other thread, i'm guessing November for Japan and March for EU/ US.

When Nintendo of Japan first announced the 3DS (think: way back in March), it promised a release of the portable by the fiscal year ending March 2011. Given the DS and DSi's six-month global rollout window, however, we weren't sure if that applied to the world or just the company's backyard -- sure, we've heard rumors of a UK release in October, but nothing's been confirmed. Cue Nintendo of America's president Reggie Fils-Aime to give a definitive answer: "The one thing, for sure, is that we will launch in all of our major markets by March 31, 2011." Well, that about settles it in our mind. Fils-Aime also clarifies that what we saw on the floor is not the final design -- something that was mentioned during the press conference -- but we wouldn't expect anything more than slightly altered button placement (for its part, the official site lists "look," battery, pre-installed software, and supported languages as TBA). But hey, if you want to believe a third screen is possible, don't let us stop you from dreaming.

Didn't we already now March 31st 2011 as the latest possible release date because of the Press release in March? Not too hot ;P.

I at least hope Japan gets its considerably earlier, so I could import.

Only if you like buying a $200+ piece of equipment twice so that you can play some launch title games a few months earlier in a language you won't understand (I don't know if you know Japanese

Considering the article talked about the Japanese market, the value of the Yen, and Nintendo's standing as a Japanese company... I'd say yes, yes it would be.

One thing that annoyed me by that article was that they called the 3DS "an updated version to its DS handheld system". It's a brand new handheld. Nintendo needs to ditch the name 3DS as it just implies that it is an upgrade to the DS, much like the DSi was.

It's slightly different to what we knew before in the way that it's confirmed that it will be out WorldWide by March 31st, rather than just in Japan.

The BBC article is probably Japan only.
So mostly all we know for SURE is that it'll be out by March of next year.

well whatever the release date i'll be getting it day 1 so i'll just hope that it's released here in Japan first since the DS was released in the US first.
