After getting the 3DS, and then realising it had a region lock (I didn't look into it as it was a gift that I didn't know about) I sent Nintendo an email clarifying things... Here you go!
(This email was sent AGES ago, only just got the reply)

    My Query:

    Nintendo's Repsonse:

From that reply, I say, BRING IT ON NINTENDO!

Protip- insulting someone on their support section is rarely a great way to get anywhere.

I'll be frank. If I were in their shoes, I'd be pissed. I mean, while I do not like Nintendo's decision to region lock the 3DS (that we shall discuss another day. Let's not derail), I won't start off by calling it stupid. And then you went all sarcastic. And at the end, you went to challenge them. O__o Keeping cool will go a long way, bro. If you had omitted your first 2 lines and that last one, it would have been much better imho. I have to commend Ninty though for handling it professionally. Guess I still have got a thing or two to learn.

Anyway, I don't really see the issue unless you mean to buy games when in Canada. Do you travel between the 2 places frequently? Where do you spend more time in? I guess you'll just have to get all your games from the place you are staying longer in. And worst case scenario, just sell off your 3DS and get an NA ver.

Moving to Canada for good. Also, 3DSXL Pikachu edition, I'm not selling it.

Worst case scenario, I shall put the internal hardware of a NA XL inside it, and get the picture sent across to Nintendo.

Why would anyone want to keep their 3DS PAL anyway? We get totally screwed in regards to the E-shop and other such things.

why would nintendo get rid of the region lock, if they put it in there in the first place? they don't want you to change it and askingg about it in a rude way won't change a thing. you are right about E-shop though.

Oh boo hoo region lock. At least you're not in North America, where you're getting only two 3DS XL colors. Way to challenge Nintendo, buddy. I'm sure that's gonna go real well for you. Your best solution? Do a case swap.

At least Nintendo of Europe has given you a lot of color options.

I wasn't very informed at the time, some manufacturers let you change firmwares to bypass region locks. Some DVD players provide such firmwares on their official sites for example. I know more now than I did then, that was sent just after Christmas.

I just don't like how corparations always assume what's best for us. Android is a prime example, why do I need to root android devices to do anything meaningful on them, when it is an open source system to begin with?

I'm thinking case swap too, but I won't be settled for another couple of months, so hopefully we have so progress on the 3DS hack by then.

Also, why isn't the decapping paypal? :(

If Nintendo were to put some Japanese-only games on the E-shop, such as Mother 3, their sales would SKYROCKET!!! They wouldn't even need to translate the game; uploading the game in Japanese would get hoards of people to buy the E-shop game as it is. If it were officially translated by Nintendo and/or HAL Laboratory itself to English, then uploaded to e-shop, not only would there be a flood of people downloading the game, there would be a hoard of people buying 3DS/XL systems as well.

    It's even worse in Europe.

We get less releases to the E-Shop than you guys, and on top of that, Ninty thinks $=£ so all of our full 3DS games come in at £39.99!!

I have a cousin who lives in Italy. I've never met/spoken with him/her (that shows how well I know them :P), but he/she complained to my father that Italy, as well as the rest of Europe, doesn't get much when it comes to digital releases.

Ofcourse, Nintendo will remove the region lock JUST for YOU.
    No problem.
Just pay them another 180 quid and they will send a special piece of hardware called an NTSC 3DS.

    Seriously tho.
Ninty won't remove the region lock.

Wait until it's hacked or get over with it.

I doubt that as you can just spend 40$ on a dstwo and play mother 3 TRANSLATED among hundreds of other games.

Unless people are willing to support Nintendo after they shat on their faces, which I guess could happen.
