sorry to repeat something that has been said a lot i am sure, but we cannot use retail carts even on emunand 7.0, without red card?

Read some guy telling retail cards work on classic mode and that only new nintendo features are not working at the moment but you will have to try it yourself to be sure, at the end is new firmware and the GW features are still at beta and not fully compatible with 7.0.

Q: How do I fix the lines freeze when entering GW Mode?
A: Make sure your SD card is writable and not locked (the switch should be upwards.) Have wireless disabled before entering GW mode.
(I've confirmed and tested this.)
That's not fixing it.
I never had wireless enabled, and my SD card is writable. It still freeze randomly when booting in Gateway mode.

It will freeze "less" if you don't have the GW card inserted, Mathieulh said the freeze might be part of clone detection as it checks the inserted card, but it still happens even without it.
Maybe it was supposed to NOT boot gateway/EmuNAND/Classic without the card inserted to prevent users from using EmuNAND without buying their card?

but as it is, we CAN boot emunand without ever using a the 'red' card? just want to make sure.

Here's my experience so far with Gateway 3DS issues:

If I boot it with a game that worked with the old version (Not "Link Between Worlds") in the slot, it boots every time for me. Same as with no card.

However, when I want to save my Link Between Worlds game, I have to start it up with a different game into Gateway 3DS mode.

This is running normal 4.5 Firmware, no emunand. If I do it with no cart, it locks up when I try to "close software" and save.

Curious. I'll be receiving my gateway shortly (today or tomorrow). And on their official website, it only shows the public beta version for download. Is it recommended to download this beta? Or should I go with the stable version instead.

Use the 1.2 if you only want non-SDK5.X games, this means you won't play Zelda Link between worlds, etc.

If I wish to play such ROM's, I'd have to download the latest public beta. But is it recommended?

Nothing bad with the beta. Just make sure to give it time to save: Save in game and wait 10 seconds, then press home menu and wait 10 seconds, then exit the game.

Doing this should be enough to play safe with the beta.

Backing up your .sav files after some achievements doesn't hurt either.

Awesome, thanks :). Can't wait to actually try it out.

Btw, sorry for the double post. Should I gain a normal MicroSD card or a Hi-speed (SDHC) MicroSD card?

SDHC has nothing to do with the speed! SDHC stands for SD High Capacity! It only talks about the data size of the card. SDHC cards are 4GB to 32 GB.
Considering that a game can be up to 4GB (and possibly 8GB as well?) it is definitely recommended to go for an SDHC card. Go for at least 8GB in size if not 16 or 32.

The class denotes the speed of the card, with Class 4 being relatively slow and Class 10 being good. However, I've heard people use Class 4 cards without problems. The only real reason why you'd use a faster card is because it's faster to write ROMs to.

The SD class is only referring to the writing speed, not the read speed. the class shouldn't matter while playing the game (video lag, loading speed, etc.)

Are you sure of that? I can remember reading in a few articles that the Class both refers to the writing as well as the reading speed. It just has more of an impact on writing than reading. (i.e. Write speed increase by 30% and read speed increased by 10% [arbitrary numbers])

Been having some serious issues booting the Gateway GUI. I'm holding down L and all it does is boot back into Gateway Mode

EDIT: Left my SD card in my computer

now don't I feel stupid.

You press and hold L before taping "DS Profile" and wait until the GUI is loaded. Have you checked if there are no contact issues when pressing the L button?

Another question I haven't gotten a clear answer to: is it safe to update the emunand to 7.X?
