So yeah, I'm having an issue. My 3DS doesn't boot with an SD card plugged in.

I took a safety measure in order to prevent me from losing access to my 3DS by transferring Luma3DS to the system NAND. Everything went fine, until I decided to install a translation patch to a game I owned. It was Pokémon X... I don't like Pokémon games... but my cousins love it. My intention was to use the patch to translate the game into my native language, so that my cousins wouldn't keep wanting to play it in a language that looked like my native language.

Anyways, I tried to install the patch, and suddenly, the 3DS doesn't boot with the SD card connected! Or at least, initially, because I can still remove the SD card, boot the system, and insert the card for it to play normally. I can even play my SD card games!

I tried to search the solution here on GBAtemp, and it led me to a thread from 2016. It mentioned an obsolete hacking method, so I didn't want to butt in. My 3DS is hacked since over two years ago, from the previous owner. And now here I am. Could you help me? Any solution is welcome!

Do you have any files on the Luma folder that's on the root of the sdcard (not the payload folder)?
What happens when you boot it with the sd card in? Does it show a black screen, an Arm11 error etc.?
Do you have Luma3DS (boot.firm file) on the root of the sdcard?

until I decided to install a translation patch to a game I owned. It was Pokémon X
How did you install this patch? where did you put the patch files on the sd card?
What patch are you talking about exactly? And what language? Was this patch completed & posted by whoever that did said translation patch?
also boot it up then insert the SD card if thats works
That's not a very good suggestion to give. You should always insert or remove the sd card before booting the 3ds, otherwise you're risking your data for corruption..

I don't know... I haven't checked. I promised myself to check yesterday and I ended up not doing it. When I have the time I'll do it.

The power light fades in, remains on for about a second, and fades out. The screen doesn't even light up.

Last time I checked, I have that file.

I got the patch from this a site called Elite dos Quatro Traduções. I also got for the other Pokémon games they had. It's in Portuguese, to help satiate the needs of a land that got Nintendo systems with menus in their language but not the games.

I followed the instructions as strictly as possible. I think my mistake was trying to put all the patches I got at the same time. If I added the patches one at a time, maybe I wouldn't have this problem... Just don't think I'm done with the thread!

UPDATE!

It's been a while. If you're reading this, my problem was finally solved! I simply deleted Luma3DS (which already existed on my system) from my SD card and it went well! If I could lock this thread, I would... I just don't know how to.

You deleted boot.firm and perhaps boot.3dsx and you say that fixed it? But the 3DS will simply not boot without the boot.firm (Luma3DS) on the root of the sdcard.

UPDATE!

Okay... I may have committed a major mistake by posting this. When I went to put Luma back on the SD card, I found out that all this time I did indeed have Luma on it. I regret writing that previous comment. Also the Luma version already on the SD card was out of date, to add insult to injury.

It's okay, just make sure you have the latest Luma3DS version (v11.0) on the sdcard, just replace the boot.firm file with the one from the link, and it should update both including the one on CTRNAND.

I have the same problem. This is exactly my problem. I decided to install the CFW on my N3ds XL last Monday and everything is good. Im on 11.16 btw. but today I opened my N3ds xl to change the analog stick after I put it back everything and I turned on I noticed it just stuck on blackscreen although there is a blue light. I left more than 20mins and it still in blackscreen with blue light.
I removed my SD card and it works perfectly fine. I tried different microsd they are all in Fat32 format but none of them work. SO IN SHORT - MY N3DS XL ONLY WORKS WITHOUT SD CARD. If I insert my SD CARD it will stuck on blackscreen with bluelight Please help :( Did I brick my N3ds Sd card slot? or is this a bug on 11.16?

I already tried 4 different microSD ( Fat32 32kB cluster ) 2 are with latest luma3ds and the other 2 are blank but again none of them work :(

I can only access GodMode9 and luma3ds IF I did not insert SD CARD :(

IM 100% my microSD are working and no issues at all. My computer and read fast and my friend tried my SDCARD on his 3ds and it works fine
