so i was wondering i recently bought metroid samus returns and my brother has been wanting to play it
is it possible for me to delete some old 3ds game off the cartridge and put metroid samus returns in its place so he can play it
for example we have scribblenauts unlimited and he doesn't use it anymore, could i dump that game off the cartridge and put metroid in its place
i have B9s and the latest luma update
my brother has no firmware exploits

3DS cartridges are read-only memory cartridges, meaning you cannot replace anything on the cartridge. Sorry.

yeah like a other game to other cartridge
theres no way to do it and why would he do it

i just wanted it for my brother nothing malicious if thats what your thinking

hey was just wondering if 3ds cartridge is ROM, then where is the game save data is saved ?
the cartridges have 2 memories
one read only, which holds the game
and other smaller that you can write to it.
this has been like that even since the game boy and NES

in some special rare cases, it's only 1 chip for both things, but the game image has protection, usually hardware, so you won't be able to write to that part. preventing damage or corruption to the "rom"

Thats what the battery file would be for most retro carts. Once those go from age, your save data goes with it.

Uum i'm quite sure there is no battery in 3ds CART....

Thanks u made it quite clear.....

3DS carts don't use batteries lol

he did say retro carts and that's what he means...
cartridges with SRAM, very common in the game boy and nes era, got the coin battery to keep the data in the SRAM
as technology improve and things got cheaper now we have flash and eeprom which don't require batteries to keep the data
in the GBA era, there were several types. some with the battery, others without it.. in the DS the SRAM was pratically abandoned

If its read only how did they get in there to begin with because there is always a way

If a CD-ROM is read-only then how do you burn stuff onto it

Think of it like Switch e-fuses, they can be burned to change their state, but you can't un-burn them to make them into a different configuration, you can only burn more.

No. They Are ROMs for a reason. Read Only Memory. Cannot write.
