Can a new 2ds come without update, like per chance maybe it's on 9.2 or lower? Or is it already updated?

New bundles/special edition systems are almost always a fresh production run with recent firmwares.

There are exceptions like last years ORAS crystal 2ds's (no game) systems though. They were 7.2, same as the cart.

I give the yo-kai watch 2ds a 75% chance of being 9.3+. It will be interesting to see if the included game (yes it's on the sd card) will be a legit signed game either way.

75% chance? I'm actually pretty sure that there's 0.001% chance the console will be on 9.2 or lower. The ORAS Bundle came on 7.2 because it was the firmware on the cartridge ; now, every console comes with 9.3+. Even the MM bundles were updated with the successive waves. And since Yo-Kai Watch is a new game, it probably comes with the new AP, and if it does, the firmware will be on FW 9.6 or more...

The rules are different for 2ds's -- they sell really slow even at their low cost. I've bought 5 of them and the last one was 6.0 at a busy store (and never higher than 7.2). Nintendo reps are known to drive around and take slow selling systems and repack it with a download code to boost sluggish sales. That's what you see with the recent mariokart 7/yoshi's island bundles, they're not new batches at all.

Still, I think they'll do a fresh production run for the yo-kai watch bundle and it will be 9.3+. Just not near 100% about it.

The yo-kai 2ds bundle should be out now.

If anyone decides to snag one, could you report the 2ds's firmware pretty please? thanks ^^

Oh, that's intriguing.
That explains why in my experience only the bundle 2ds's have the clear adhesive stickers sealing the cardboard flaps.
I found it strange that between two units on the same firmware only the bundle was sealed.
I thought maybe they just didn't seal 2ds units at first as a move to discourage people from returning units to the retailer to swap for a different color as that breaks the warranty scan and makes it a restocking nightmare.
Now I'm thinking it's because they wanted to leave the opportunity for sales bundle inserts in the future.
Clever foresight Nintendo.

Confirmed: the yo-kai 2ds bundle is firmware 9.9.0-26U.
Browser is installed.

This is the first confirmed case of a non-return new old3ds having > 9.2!
