1665 - Minna no Soft Series Minna no Shogi (J)

Wow, I saw this game being played on an episode of Tenchi Muyo this week, now I know what they were playing ^^;

Is it too difficult, or someone who understands western chess can come to play shogi sorta fast?

Jei,

It's close enough to 'Western' chess that you can pick up the basics real quick. There are a few different pieces, moves and rules, but the game is basically similar.

Of course, once you get beyond the basics and into the strategy side of it - it's completely different
