Certain title id's force 4:3 in vWii but not wii. Use this tool to adjust the wad
https://gbatemp.net/download/convert2vwii.37159/

This may also work
https://gbatemp.net/download/wiifor...wii-u-forwarder-converter-beta-version.37254/
Yeah @XFlak, but it's highy recommendable to use my WiiForwarder2vWii tool since this one is very much improved and has better compatibility with Wii forwarder WADs over Convert2vWii.

Most of the Convert2vWii 1.4 features are also included in my tool, even it detects automatically the NAND Loader used in the original WAD so it can recognize where the NAND loader must go.

I used WiiForwarder2vWii to convert the wad forwarder @SaulFabre uploaded here earlier. It's easy to use and the channel looks really great, thanks. But the game didn't change at all, it's still pillarboxed, no in-game video option other than 480p, and everything becomes pillarboxed as well after closing the game, just like before.

OpenHCL is a fanmade, cross-platform port of E. (Buster) Hashimoto's Hydra Castle Labyrinth.
It is a metroidvania game, similar to The Maze of Galious.

This thread is for the Wii version, but it is also available for the 3DS, Vita and PSP.

This version features:
- 240p mode for CRT televisions.
- Controllable with wiimote, nunchuk, gamecube, and classic controllers.

Well, that's another bug.

@JeffRuLz, any solution to this?

I can confirm that your update test for the OpenHCL Wii with USB support now works when loaded from a forwarder WAD.
Thanks a lot! Will you bring this fix for the next release?
I'm glad that it works. And yes, I only uploaded it here to test it first.

It seems to force 16:9 with pillarboxing. I'm using vWii in 480p 4:3 on a CRT PC monitor. In the game options I can't change video, it's stuck at 480p. What can I do to make it work in proper 4:3? (The image is already horizontally stretched 100% on the monitor).

After I close the game, even the Wii menu and other homebrew change to pillarbox until I leave to Wii U menu and back to vWii.
Last year @Vague Rant made a pull request adding support for a special WiiU video mode that improves the image quality for 4:3 games on HDTVs. We forgot to not enable it for 4:3 TVs.
I just uploaded a new release that should have fixed it.

The game is complete on all platforms.

Thanks for porting this little indie gem to the wii!!
It didn't work for me on usb (black screen).
It worked only on sd
Edit:
It also works as a wiiflow plugin. I'll try to make a fullcover for it (not easy given the lack of any artwork)
@Tetsuo Shima
Could you try the new version of OpenHCL (v2021.11.08) again on USB? @JeffRuLz fixed that issue with USB drives, and also fixed a issue of 4:3 screens on Wii U.
https://github.com/JeffRuLz/OpenHCL/releases

Tell me if this was fixed.

Sorry for resurrecting this, but i am happy that a game like this gets ported properly to the Wii at 240p even, this and Cave Story are a blast, are there any noteworthy japanese doujinshi games that can be played on the Wii?

Literally, how?

Some CRT's do not support 240p.
Progressive scanlines are not the same as Interlaced scanlines.

welpl that explanation you gave i literally read on 4chan, and also, when i do 240p on mgba per example, i see the image has thin scanlines and no flicker bleeding, on 480 i DO get that stuff, no scanlines, very flickery image, specially when i used to connect my PC to my crt via a (very crappy) chinese VGA to RCA transcoder, and when it comes to pixel art, i cannot stand flickering.

It runs at 480i by default because some TVs do not support 240p. There is a setting to change it to 240p in the options menu.

I need a 480i option
Magnavox MS3650 C327 consumer CRT TV; it's on Wii with included composite cables; no, I don't have nor can get an S Video cable; no, my TV has no component input; no, it is indeed 4:3; yes, it's being forced to 480p; no, it's not giving 240p or 480i options; no, it's not being upscaled; no, the only video setting my Wii gives me in System Settings is 480i
