what is the best PS1 emulator for Wii as far as compatibility, frame rate, and overall gameplay go?
I am afraid the every best right now is WiiSX RX (Current Fork) and even then is only being improved on baby steps, and it looks that unless they add speedhacks, don't expect to get the most popular titles to run at fullspeed without chuggin on Wii, there's the Wii U but that means no 240p (if it gets implemented on the emulator).

There was another fork made by someone else who manage to get it to 240p but the version you find online is broken and doesn't work since the author quit and deleted his original downloads.

There was also an early attempt to add Mednafen PSX to an ancient version of RA on the wii but that one was worthless because it run at 10fps at best, and thats a shame when you consider that the PSX core of Mednafen was the very best and very light weight and not resource hoggish until duckstation, which make me think that they just added a proof of concept for that old version of RA rather then the real deal, to make matters worse, both developers of Mednafen and Duckstation dont want to work on the Wii anymore via RA because the RA developers, well, they have a dubious reputation and ''stole'' the emulators, but at the same time the OG devs dont even want to bother with the WII, so we may never know if the Wii could run PS1 well so far.

That and another issue its not well documented in most places, turns out that around 2013, the Wii homebrew scene suffered an attack that broke more then half of the classic apps from simple things like emulators not responding to Wiimotes with Wiimotion Plus, to random DSI dump crashes that aint no matter IF, but WHEN, and many many others just simply abandoned, both by lost of interest, infighting, and Nintendo being sneaky with their updates that broke the WII in preparation for the Wii U, since Nintendo being Nintendo, they of course forbid emulation, why do you think they made the WiiMini with no SD card to begin with and no internet connection and bamboozle their costumers saying it was because their features were ''unpopular'', and for all it took to finally get the Wii Mini hack, only so that many apps dont work well on that thing (I own both).

I still keep hope that if someone can make a new PS1 emu for the Wii from the ground, MAYBE..............

WiiSXRX_2022 is the one I downloaded, gonna give it a try. Does anybody know if it supports HID USB controllers? Or is there any other PS1 emulator that does?

in my opinion the best if you play on crt tv is wiisx silver since the graphic difference obtained is brutal 240p, without bilinear filter, without tearing... but if you play on lcd screen without a doubt the best are wiisxrx from niuus and the wiisxrx_2022 for compatibility. I have all three on wiiflow with wiisx silver as a preference until the others implement the graphic improvements

Wow, been awhile since huh? i necropost this thread only because i got a reaction and like on this one i didnt expected, just to tell you how much one year makes a difference, now Wiistation is (imo) on top with all the multiple upgrades and the release of lightrec, its still not quite there yet, but yes, it is far from where it was a year ago.
