I fucking hope so. I don't want the Switch to be the only console that didn't get a new Mario Kart game. It's long overdue, I had already played MK8 so much by the time I got it for Switch, I've barely played the Switch version. Ports are all well and good but they're not a replacement for new games and they shouldn't be treated as such. They take a matter of weeks to make. I was hoping for at least 4 more DLC cups, that would've brought the total number of cups to two games worth, which I could accept. But after a few years it became clear that was probably not going to happen. A new game would be better though.
I'm still lacking multiplayer games for my Switch. Wario Ware having coop is nice, new Mario Party is good. The Wii just had so much more between the combined GC and Wii libraries, including some of the best Mario Parties and Mario Kart Double Dash which I have a lot of nostalgia for, I still return to the Wii sometimes for multiplayer fun. On the Switch I've not really found any really solid "go to" multiplayer coop or party games to whip out any time I'm visiting family and we want to play a game and don't mind returning to again and again. The new (old) Mario Party is a strong contender though, just haven't had the chance to play it much yet.
A new Mario Kart is exactly the kind of thing that could revitalize my love for party games, which I barely play anymore at this point. Used to play them every other week on the Wii, especially Fortune Street when we had the time (that can easily take hours to play one game, it's basically Monopoly but fancier), and when we didn't, play a few rounds of Mario Kart and a game of Mario Party (5, 6, sometimes 8)
