Walmart and Target will no longer sell Pokemon cards in store due to "safety concerns"

chari.png

Target is banning the sale of certain brands of trading cards, and will no longer carry them at physical locations. This is apparently due to safety issues, with official banners being posted up in certain locations across the United States, claiming that the decision is to, "ensure the safety of our guests and team members". The new policy hasn't gone into effect just yet, but will be happening at all Target locations tomorrow, May 14th. Customers will still be able to buy the banned brands of cards, which include Pokemon, MLB, NFL, and NBA trading cards online at Target.com. While Target hasn't pointed out what safety issues in specific it has regarding the cards, there have been occasions of crime occurring and fights breaking out at Target stores over them. Just a few days ago, a man was assaulted by a group of other men, with the latter attempting to steal the cards from the individual. At least, until he pulled out a gun and scared the would-be thieves away, all whilst in the parking lot of a Target.

Another major American retail chain, Walmart, is also choosing to prohibit the sale of all trading cards, following these recent events. Some Walmart stores have similarly posted notices in newly cleaned-out sections, explaining that "inappropriate customer behavior " has lead to the decision to no longer sell cards.

These Babylon Bee guys are just easier to understand, that's all. :tpi:
Well sure it's easier to understand if it's repeated enough times, that's how propaganda works. I suppose the Onion is "too intellectual" for some people.

WTF, are new Pokemon cards really so valuable that they're worth stealing and starting fist fights over? Back in my day even a foil first edition Charizard was only worth about a hundred bucks, and that was the rarest card.

iirc, what basically happened is it became popular to drop thousands on boosters to open on stream, which lead to an upsurge in scalpers looking to profit, which lead to empty shelves and raised prices everywhere. For those who just want to build their collection, like my fiance, it kinda sucks. Even my local mom & pop shop has jacked up their prices (when they're actually able to get any meaningful amount of stock) due to scalpers.

Nah. Would need a "pokemon is satanic" and "pokemon is animal abuse" components to cover the religious weirdos and hollywood hills hippies respectively to make is that.

Nah that make me think "what is the world coming too" this just make me picture the craziness of black Friday over pokemon cards

. ..what the hell is a dang card gonna do to a person??? this isn't John wick for goodness sakes it's a pack of trading cards for children and adults like why?? "ensure the safety of our guests and team members". - what safety?? no idiot gonna go with a jacket on, screaming in to rob dang Pokémon cards lmaoo..I cannot these people are literally top tier snowflake clown levels.
another thing, I get the feeling they maybe doing this because they want people to shop online to stay at home not go outside which is a grotesque move yet dumb because their going to be losing a lot of customers that way....course it maybe done on purpose but *again* there are other stores out there that sell these like you can go to your local or none local card shop place to get these.

gamefreak ain't gonna stop pooping these out because these idiots wanna be "the eND Izzzz hErE wEar uR dIapErssss, stay home or I KILL u" - not gonna work, people are still gonna find a way to get them outside.

Doesn't Walmart sell guns too or something like that?

Yes they do but apparently trading cards of an anime kids show is dangerous lmaoo

I'm assuming most people here don't actually shop at Target/Walmart (or have any experience in the real world), because if you actually knew what you were talking about and saw these idiots lined up on Thursday/Friday and harassing employees you would understand. They have to waste so much time and energy dealing with these entitled shitbird customers, their constant phone calls, and then the idiots taking their frustrations out on employees and other customers. It's not different than only offering the PS5/XSX online.

As I play magic, I was commenting with a fellow player how absurd it was that certain cards were over 5k dollars, then I did a bit of research and found out that certain pokemon cards are 50k.

I mean, with all the crypto speculation going on today, it should make sense, but I guess I'm getting too old for this.

Walmart still sells Pokémon cards and I verified this is true Antioch ca Walmart has a few on the peg. It is only target that suspended sales. Also the only place around here that has an abundance of cards is the toy store in Livermore “San Francisco” outlets. Looks like not only are Pokémon cards scarce but I also read trolling on YouTube that the current set out isn’t very good. So I am completely confused why do people bother with it. I picked up a pack and box set to check it out, I still don’t see what the hype is all about. Maybe old sets?

"It is only target that suspended sales."

And that's why they didn't make into the lyrics of the thread theme.

True but the OP topic says walmart and target. And I mean, not complaining or anything either because it kinda made sense at the time that it could've been true. However the only store I know of that people stand outside waiting to open for pokemon cards is, in fact, Target. Never heard of that happening at Walmart. Walmart is a store where you have to hunt pallets for shit. Just not sure how all that works with pokemon cards. I know people have to hit pallets usually at night for diecast cars (hot wheels, M2's) and some Walmarts are "morning stores" where you can only get that kind of stuff in the morning. But only hot wheels collectors show up there. Livermore walmart, for example, is a morning store. Same dude goes there every morning when they open. Kinda sad but oh well it's a hobby.

Okay, now I'm angry. Being an avid Pokemon TCG and Magic the Gathering player, I often stop by my local Target and Walmart for cards 'cause they're often pretty cheap and almost always in stock, and it's within walking distance, whereas my closest comic shop isn't. (Which I do always go to for any sort of big purchase, basically anything over $20) But now we've gotta deal with complete shitheads ruining it for everyone. Congrats, you caused so much trouble over card games that stores are refusing to sell them now.

I wonder if I can convince Guilty Spark to glass over the earth with some Halo ring somewhere... We could really use it at this point..

How are these cheap? I bought one pack at Target the other day and it cost $4.60 after tax. I'm like WOW seriously for 10 little cardboard cards? Maybe it is cheaper at your Target though :) I find these cheaper in big lot quantities on ebay. I'm kinda confused why people bother buying these in the store due to that. I can get 36 packs for $129.99+tax shipped on ebay whereas at Target for the exact same thing that'd cost me what $4.60 x 36 = $165.60 :| Today I bought 2 packs at Walmart for almost $11 LOL. I'm just scoping out the hobby but man oh man these are not cheap by any means. I pay less money for factory sealed baseball cards than this :|
