As someone who spent like $300 on Pokémon cards in the summer, it's absolutely not dead. Neither is Yu-Gi-Oh!. Just because not every kid and manchild buys them now doesn't mean it's dead.

Seems like you're new to TCG. Pokémon is one of the easiest TCG to learn out there. Just look at Weiss Schwartz, Yu-Gi-Oh, MTG... The only TCG that is simpler than Pokémon that I know of would be Chaotic, which is is out of production since 2010.

    Meh, card games. >.>

The only card game I ever really got into was MTG. But it's an expensive hobby if you want to stay in the meta and play competitively.

Ultra Pokemon fans would probably be playing sword and shield right now. since like most other people have said, pokemon trading cards are mostly a dead thing. also, the "ultra" pokemon fans would probably know how to play the game. there are also so many other forms of entertainment that you could give to kids such as the actual pokemon video games.
I guess collectors could be interested.

Holy f*ck, just release a goddamn Pokémon TCG title on the Nintendo Switch!
Da hell r u waiting for?
I really loved it even back then on the shitty Game Boy since it was just a cool and good game. How hard can it be to release a Switch game with all the cards in it? Don't want the money?

I've always found Yu-Gi-Oh! easier. Maybe that's because the anime (pre-VRAINS) teaches you the basics.

I'm playing Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Links, and there's a lot of effect shenanigans like that can miss their timing, or cannot be used because one keyword is missing compared to another card with seemingly the same effect...
While Pokémon is literally "equip energy, and do the attack. Sometime boost an attack with supporter/items".

Pokémon TCGO exist, that's probably why. Makes more money than developing an actual console TCG game.

Perhaps some could benefit from one of these. Pokemon card trading was HUGE when I was in elementary school, yet not a SINGLE one of us knew the actual rules.

Pokémon TCG is huge here. It's not because you haven't seen people playing that it doesn't have a market. I'm still waiting to see if it's just a glorified playmat though.
